Job description

ALL.SPACE is seeking a skilled Hardware Debug Engineer to join our team and help us deliver our groundbreaking satellite communications terminals.   

We’re looking for a candidate who has skills and experience in testing, debugging and diagnosing complex PCB assemblies, to help us during a busy period of R&D and manufacturing ramp-up. 

The role will be split between supporting the demands of our established products in manufacturing and helping the Hardware team to bring up new PCBA designs. 

This role is based in our state of the art Engineering campus facility in West Reading

Requirements

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Testing production PCB/PCBA assemblies, using automated functional test equipment and diagnosing faults down to component level. Keeping records of test yields, faults seen and rework actions taken. Working with HW & SW teams to improve test equipment coverage and efficiency. Working with the Manufacturing and Quality teams to ensure that the demand is met and test record information is kept up to date. Documenting the various issues seen and the corrective actions taken to resolve them. Maintaining and improving the test equipment and processes used. 
  • Working with our Hardware team to support the bring up and debugging of new PCB/PCBA assemblies. Perform ‘first-off’ visual inspections and methodically follow procedures to perform initial power on tests on new PCB assemblies to ensure they have been built correctly and function as expected. Keeping detailed records and documenting and feeding back any observations seen.  
  • Working with the Test Engineering team to develop new automated test processes to increase the test capacity and efficiency.  
  • Interpret and understand engineering documentation such as drawings, schematics, PCB gerber files, BOMs, component datasheets and test specifications. Generate ECN’s to update formal documentation. 
  • Documenting Work Instructions for testing/repairing/modifying products and assemblies. 

Requirements 

  • 5+ years experience in a similar electronics environment. 
  • Hands-on experience using lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, signal generators, multi-meters, power supplies etc. 
  • Understanding of common electronics standards, SPI, I2C, CAN etc. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well in a team. 
  • ‘Can do’ approach, and the ability to find solutions to problems. 
  • Good time management and ability to work unsupervised. 
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information in a responsible manner. 
  • Communicate clearly and calmly with the wider ALL.SPACE team, suppliers and customers, both verbally and written. 

Desirable Skills and Experience: 

  • General understanding of RF Hardware circuits. 
  • Programming/scripting skills: Python, Matlab etc 
  • Willing to work flexible/additional hours in order to meet tight timescales and work requirements. 
  • PCBA component level rework skills, including use of irons, hot air, and IR rework equipment. 

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to travel locally in UK on request. 
  • May be subjected to occasional extended work hours.
