Job description

The dynamics group team concentrates on defining forcing functions that act upon the vehicle, predicting vehicle and system response, and ensuring hardware meets the qualifications for ground testing and flight. The group's wide range of responsibilities include structural dynamics, fluid system dynamics, engine dynamics and multibody dynamics.

As Dynamics engineer, you will provide technical expertise in the areas of rotorcraft structural dynamics, drive system dynamics, rotor dynamics, acoustics, control theory, orbital mechanics, optimization, and software development to the team. A qualified candidate will have a strong intuition of physics first principles, frequency domain, and strong software and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and use analysis tools to resolve dynamics problems, perform trajectory design, optimization, and dispersion analysis
  • Develop highly reliable and performant GNC algorithms, simulations, tools, services, and dashboards using C++ or Python
  • Develop new mission analysis capabilities for rendezvous and proximity operations
  • Build finite element and lumped element models of launch vehicle systems
  • Execute dynamic testing from start-to-finish (pre-test analysis, sensor selection & installation, testing, data analysis, signal processing and model correlation)
  • Write high-quality technical documentation of programs, algorithms, or analysis

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, math, or scientific discipline
  • 2+ years of experience with structural or fluid dynamics via full-time employment, outside the classroom projects, or lab work
  • Strong understanding of orbital mechanics, including low thrust trajectory optimization and station keeping
  • Experience implementing optimization algorithms
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret and/or a TS/SCI clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience implementing machine learning or AI algorithms
  • Experience in launch vehicle and/or spacecraft systems.
  • Creative approach to problem solving, exceptional analytical skills, and engineering fundamentals
  • Cradle-to-grave development of three-axis stabilized spacecraft incorporating momentum, magnetic, and propulsive control
  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry
  • Experience in mission operations and orbit-raising planning
  • Experience with fluid system modeling and structural-fluid coupling pogo problems
  • Experience with NASTRAN (knowledge of DMAP programming a plus)
  • Experience with turbomachinery and combustion dynamics
  • Experience with vibration and shock testing
  • Experience with finite element modeling
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis and test, including a fundamental understanding of strength, stability and fatigue failure mechanisms
  • Experience with data processing and analysis in Python and MATLAB
  • Capable of identifying and solving complex problems with little to no supervision or direction
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
ITAR Requirements:
  • This position may include access to technology and/or software source code that is subject to U.S. export controls. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158,  or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Benefits

  • Health Insurance: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Retirement Plans: Access to a 401(k) plan.
  • Paid Time Off: Generous vacation days, personal days, and holidays to ensure you have time to recharge.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for ongoing training, workshops, and courses to advance your skills and career growth.
  • Team Building Activities: Regular social events, team outings, and company-sponsored activities to foster a positive work environment.
