ispace-US is seeking a Head of Global Trade who will develop and implement ispace strategy, lead a global team of export control specialists, and ensure compliance with all import and export regulations and licensing requirements for our US, Japan, and Luxembourg operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Business Development, Engineering, and HR to define global export control strategy.
- Coordinate with and drive a global team of export control specialists to align compliance efforts across multiple entities.
- Function as a trusted authority for programs and operations, providing analyses of governmental import/export regulations (ITAR/EAR), laws and requirements and interpretation with specific or general reference pertaining to the Space business.
- Establish a management system for security trade management.
- Conduct risk assessments based on domestic and economic conditions and regulatory trends and implement remediation measures.
- Develop trade management policies and procedures; formulate export control protocols and manuals.
- Create an implement a global training program.
- Document management: storage of key documents and policies.
- Advise information system and infrastructure development: establishment of information sharing mechanisms and systemization of screening procedures.
- Conduct and report on internal audits of export control systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of in advising multinational businesses on international trade compliance matters, inclusive of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and sanctions programs.
- Subject matter expertise with non-US export regulatory regimes (ideally Japan and EU).
- Experience in government relations and trade strategy development.
- Ability to work independently and escalate issues appropriately.
- Ability to collaborate fluidly with teams domestically as well as internationally, and to manage outside counsel, as needed.
- Demonstrated success working at all levels within an organization to achieve measurable results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree. We will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Desired Qualifications
- JD or advanced certification in compliance-related expertise
- Familiarity with Wassenaar Arrangement and the Missile Technology Control Regime
- Ability to ‘speak’ Engineer and translate complex regulatory requirements into plain English
- Project Management experience or education
- Established background/experience and/or ability to make technical determinations related to the export of data and hardware
- Patience
- Sense of humor
· The salary range posted is a targeted range for budget of position. Base compensation can be negotiated and will be commensurate with experience, skills, education, and training.
