Job description

Turion Space is seeking a Network Engineer to join our platform engineering team. Working across both our cloud and on-premises infrastructure, you'll help design, implement, and maintain our network solutions. While we currently operate primarily in AWS, you'll be instrumental in building and maintaining our hybrid networking infrastructure that supports both cloud and physical operations. This role offers an opportunity to work with traditional networking while embracing modern cloud-native practices, automation, and infrastructure as code. You'll work closely with our platform and security teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable network solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Network Operations:
  • Design and implement network infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments
  • Manage and optimize network performance, including routing, switching, and load balancing
  • Configure and maintain network hardware and cloud networking services
  • Implement and maintain security controls across all network infrastructure
  • Create and maintain network automation solutions using infrastructure as code
  • Design and implement robust network monitoring and observability solutions
  • Support our office network infrastructure and connectivity needs
  • Maintain physical network infrastructure and hardware lifecycle
  • Participate in on-call rotations for network support

Platform Integration:
  • Work with platform team to implement network automation solutions
  • Help design and implement cloud-native networking solutions
  • Support container networking and service mesh implementations
  • Assist in creating standardized network deployment patterns
  • Contribute to network documentation and training materials
  • Help teams with their networking needs and requirements
  • Support CI/CD pipeline networking components
  • Implement network security controls and monitoring
  • Collaborate with security team on network security initiatives

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Personnel Security Clearance (PCL)
  • 3+ years of experience in network engineering and operations
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and architectures (TCP/IP, routing, switching)
  • Experience with cloud networking services (preferably AWS)
  • Proficiency with network automation and infrastructure as code
  • Current networking certification (CCNA or equivalent)
  • Experience with Linux/Windows systems administration
  • Basic programming/scripting skills (Python, Shell scripting)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Physical ability to work with network equipment (lifting up to 50 pounds, rack mounting)
  • Experience with network security principles and implementation

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field
  • Advanced networking certifications (CCNP, AWS Advanced Networking)
  • Experience with multiple cloud providers and their networking services
  • Strong automation skills using Python, Go, or similar languages
  • Experience with container networking and service mesh technologies
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and tools
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Understanding of zero trust networking principles
  • Experience with network monitoring and observability platforms
  • Familiarity with GitOps practices and tools
  • Experience with large-scale network deployments
  • Security certifications (Security+, CCNA Security)
