Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems – Systems Integration Engineer (24-487) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

Integrate C2BMC software into the C2BMC test suites at the MDIOC, primarily Virtual servers. Develop site and event-specific configurations to support test, war games, and exercise events.  Operate and troubleshoot C2BMC systems during test events.  Work with external National Team (CLAW) personnel to resolve test lab issues and work with C2BMC Operations and Sustainment and Level-II support personnel to resolve installation and processing issues.   The position is based in Colorado Springs at the MDIOC, but sometimes multi-week travel to customer sites (e.g., EUCOM, CENTCOM) and contractor sites (e.g., Huntsville, HWY83) may be required.

Essential Functions:

  • Knowledge of or minimal skill with Systems Integration and System/Software Testing, including virtualized environments
  • Understanding of the software development process, from requirements to final product deployment
  • Self-starter with good communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills and an ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Able to cooperatively develop integration plans/procedures from sources such as functional/performance requirements and stated technical capabilities, monitor the integration of the test resources, execute these detailed integration procedures, analyze integration results, and present the results verbally and in written format
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with people within and external to the program, and must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in troubleshooting small to large-scale infrastructure
  • Author Spiral and build-level test plan documents and procedures
  • Create Test Discrepancy Reports to document issues
  • Assist software development personnel with investigating and resolving issues
  • Develop troubleshooting procedures and work-around documents
  • Develop and execute detailed test plans and procedures to test C2BMC in an integrated environment or to test specific capabilities
  • Plan and lead integration C2BMC tests with external elements and sensors
  • Review and provide feedback on system specifications, development, test, and network documents as necessary
  • Attend meetings with other C2BMC FAs, customers, etc., and represent the Integration team
  • Create and modify scripts to extract specific information from log files, perform data analysis of input, internal, and output message data, troubleshoot test and operational issues, document test results, and prepare test status documentation
  • The ability to travel is a requirement

Basic Qualifications:

Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

  • An active Secret clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with 8 years experience.  Master’s degree in a STEM Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with 6 years experience
  • DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA) is required to start.
  • Hands-on skill with LINUX/UNIX and Windows operating systems
  • Knowledge of or practical experience with industry or DoD test methodologies and terminology
    • High proficiency with:
      • VMware
      • Virtual servers
      • UNIX
      • Shell Scripting
    • Detailed knowledge of Windows and Unix environments
    • Working knowledge in test plan/procedure preparation and test execution
    • Integration of system components within an integrated test environment
    • Working knowledge of system design and overall integration into an operational environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current and active Top Secret clearance is highly desired
  • Knowledge of or practical experience with industry or DoD test methodologies and terminology
  • Experience with operational systems (e.g., Aegis, Patriot), development systems (e.g., GMD, THAAD, Aegis), and off-the-shelf statistical analysis packages is a plus

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $187,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
