The Boeing Company is currently seeking an Senior Electro-physics/Electromagnetics Engineer - Scientist to join the E3 Design Integration Team located in Berkeley, MO. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.
The St. Louis E3 Design Integration Team is responsible for various tasks including but not limited to analysis, concept development, design implementation, and verification tasks on various Boeing Defense programs. The position requires interfacing with multiple disciplines across The Boeing Company (Engineering, Product Support, Manufacturing, etc.), external customers, suppliers, and multiple levels of the organization to manage compliance to design integration requirements.
Position Responsibilities for Experienced Level:
- Develops and validates requirements for various subsystems (e.g. communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and components), mechanical subsystems, interconnects and structures
- E3 program planning, authoring E3 support documentation, continuous program E3 oversight and visibility, and product manufacturing support
- Performs E3 research and development activities supporting advanced programs
- Oversees supplier electromagnetic testing for compliance with procedures and standards
- Manages assignments within allocated budgets, on schedule, and with high quality results
- Identification, analysis, requirements allocation, coordination, application, and verification of E3 design requirements to ensure compliance with system performance requirements
- Develops architectures to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms
- Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnects and system performance and to optimize design around established requirements
- Defines and conducts tests to validate performance of designs to requirements
- Manages appropriate aspects of supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements
- Provides support to products throughout their life cycle by developing root-cause analysis of anomalies and other engineering support as requested
- Supports project management by providing work statement, budget, schedule and other required inputs and by reporting project status
- Writes appropriate sections of proposals to support development of new business
Primary responsibilities for Senior/Lead Level:
- Develops and validates requirements for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and components
- Develops and validates electromagnetic requirements for electrical\electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures
- Develops architectures to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms
- Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnects and system performance and to optimize design around established requirements
- Defines and conducts tests to validate performance of designs to requirements
- Manages appropriate aspects of supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements
- Provides support to products throughout their life cycle by developing root-cause analysis of anomalies and other engineering support as requested
- Supports project management by providing work statement, budget, schedule and other required inputs and by reporting project status
- Writes appropriate sections of proposals to support development of new business
- Provides general mentorship
- Certification as TEMPEST Professional (CTP-I or CTP-II) desired but not required
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required
Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- Engineering experience with EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) or E3 (Electromagnetic Environmental Effects)
- 14+ years of work related experience with a Bachelor’s OR 12+ years work related experience with a Masters OR 9+ years work related experience with a PhD
- Willing to Travel Domestically and internationally as needed
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- B.S Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Physics
- Experience with relevant aircraft electromagnetic standards: MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, RTCA DO-160
- Experience in a role which required knowledge of MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, DO-160, IEC-61000, and/or FCC part 15
- Experience with written and verbal communication and leading projects, along with the ability to make decisions and deliver results
- Experience working within an engineering organization
- Experience with lightning testing and analysis
- Certification as TEMPEST Professional (CTP-I or CTP-II)
Typical Education for Lead Level:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
