Principal Software Engineer - Satellite Mission Operations

Position Purpose:  Blue Canyon Technologies currently has an opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team. As a Software Engineer on the Mission Operations Center Software team, you will help support spacecraft operators, system engineers, manufacturing teams and customers - beginning at design and continuing through development, manufacturing, launch, and flight. The MOC Software Team develops and maintains a cloud-based platform that supports multiple in-flight missions. The platform provides a web application, REST API and a message-based architecture on the AWS cloud. Our system allows our operators to automate their day-to-day tasks so they don’t need to sit in an operations center watching screens.

Title:  Principal Software Engineer

Position Type: Full Time (Exempt)

Pay Range: $108,000 - $220,000

(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:

• Support our operations team to ensure successful missions
• Take technical ownership of the architecture and understand how it solves business objectives
• Mentor teammates, provide best practices and guidance to teammates
• Develop software within an agile team environment
• Interact with engineers from various disciplines. Satellites are built from the ground up, and the MOC team is part of the process all the way through
• Design the security, reliability and performance of a live production web application.
• Coordinate delivery of data products to customers
• Balance new development and support of an ongoing operations team
• Other responsibilities as assigned
• May include personnel management responsibilities

 

Required Qualifications/Education

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Aerospace engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education
• 10+ years of software development experience
• Experience working on a SaaS or PaaS product
• Expertise with at least 4 of the below
  • js/Express
  • Ruby
  • PostgreSQL/Timescale
  • Angular/React/Vue or other web framework
  • RabbitMQ or another message queue
  • API and/or Microservice design
  • AWS including serverless architecture
  • Linux development
  • Docker/containers

Additional Desired Skills:

• Satellite mission operations experience
• Network and/or Application Security
• COSMOS experience
• Python Language
• CI/CD tools
• Cloud Formation or Terraform
• Familiar with NIST 800 or other security best practices
• Government Contracting Experience or

Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.  BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted.
