Job description
Astranis is on a mission to bridge the digital divide by connecting the four billion people worldwide who currently lack internet access. We're doing this by building the next generation of smaller, more cost-effective spacecraft to bring the world online.
As a team, we’ve launched two satellites into orbit, signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $500 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 300 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars.
Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more!
Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career.
Apply and join us on our journey towards global connectivity!
As a DevOps Intern, you will work with our Flight Software and other related teams to operate, scale, and automate operations for our embedded software and platform development. These include command & control systems, telemetry databases, continuous integration systems, flight code build systems, and other software systems critical to our mission. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to key projects and gain hands-on experience in the aerospace industry. You will write code that will be flying in space!
You will assist in improving the state of operations for key software systems at Astranis, focusing on reliability and maintainability as we expand to a fleet of satellites and their supporting services. This role will contribute to both commercial and US Government programs.
Role:

- Create tooling to automate python package generation and upload to a private repository.
- Support the automation of release, deployment, and monitoring tooling for development and production systems.
- Aid in the implementation and management of metrics and performance tracking in development, CI, production, and mission contexts.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in a related discipline (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science)
- Relevant Experience or coursework with Python
- Familiarity with git and/or github
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously with guidance from senior engineers
Bonus:
- Experience with Bazel build system
- Experience with Python package generation
- Familiarity with code coverage reporting
- Exposure to static analysis tools
