Job description

Duties

  • Maintain operations of the Aerospace Communications laboratories including but not limited to operation, maintenance, test integration, planning, schedule, impact, task needs, priorities, risk, and limitation.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, training and technical oversight to Space Environments test branch technicians including civil servants and support service contractors who interact with engineers.
  • Provide technical expertise to help technicians develop core competencies including but not limited to labs functionality, processes, and understanding for advanced radio frequency (RF) and optical communication technology research and development.
  • Provide support for logistic principles of, but not limited to, equipment, tools, stock, acquisitioning, proper certifications, storage, disposal, delivery, transportation, excessing, and labeling.
  • Support technical professionals, support service groups, and customers as a Communications and Instrumentation subject matter expert in support of communication technology research and development.
  • Maintain professional and open dialog to keep branch management and the Facility Manager informed on all issues including, but not limited to, schedule impacts, repairs, maintenance plans, upgrades, conflicts, staffing needs and funding needs.
  • Provide hands-on electronics test support for the Aviation, Communication, and Instrumentation Capability Asset Group including installation, fabrication, testing and evaluation, research and development, sustainment, and/or troubleshooting.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
  • Collaborating with internal and external resources to ensure successful operation of the laboratory, antennae fields, and clean room;
  • Ensuring that relevant workspace maintenance, replacement, repairs, and/or modifications occur to effect a state of operational readiness; and
  • Providing electronics test support to develop, test, or perform work on electronic equipment whose operating characteristics may be unfamiliar to laboratory technicians.
