We’re on the hunt for a Mechanical Designer of MGSE on our Satellite systems team at our Montreal office.

Role:
As a Mechanical Designer of MGSE, you will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to develop subsystem components, products or structures used to manufacture, assemble or test state-of-the-art satellite products or subsystems. As part of one or more project teams, under the supervision of experienced engineers, you will be responsible for establishing the mechanical concepts and associated documentation for ground support equipment such as tooling, fixtures, jigs and mechanisms to assemble, test or deliver customized space products for our international customers. From the brainstorming phase through to detailed definition, you define the mechanical assembly components that ensure the safety of personnel and products. To define the product, you will use a range of advanced 3D modeling and simulation software to model concepts and predict their behavior. You will also participate in the preparation of the documentation required for the manufacture and use of the equipment. As a technical member of the design team, you will help coordinate activities related to your designs to ensure smooth project progress (configuration/distribution of documentation, follow-up of purchasing and assembly activities and utilization).
Responsibility/Tasks:
- Mechanical design of ground support equipment used to manufacture/assemble or deliver antennas, payloads or space electronics.
- Understand customer specifications
- Suggest new concepts to meet these requirements
- Select/design components according to constraints
- Integrate concepts from electrical, manufacturing, alignment, thermal and structural analysis into 3D models
- Develop detail and assembly drawings, parts lists and user guides
- Monitor operations of component suppliers
- Support the use of designed and assembled equipment during integration and testing activities.
Minimum qualifications required:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, automated production engineering or equivalent
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Minimum 2 years' experience in mechanical design
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project and MS Excel
Preferred qualifications :
- Bilingual (English/French)
- Experience in mechanical design of tooling and jigs
- Knowledge of geometric tolerancing, drawing standards
- CAD design skills (NX, Creo or Catia)
- Knowledge of the space industry

Special Considerations:
Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
