Northrop Grumman is Principal Research Scientist. This position will be located at our Space Systems Sector in Promontory, Magna, or Clearfield, Utah.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Propulsion Systems business group.

Job Duties

Initiates the design, development, execution and implementation of technology research projects. Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.

Responsibilities include; defining and executing research tasks, analyzing data, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting research at scientific conferences. Capable of defining research projects for their projects with assistance from management with a focus on answering fundamental questions in basic science. Plans and executes applied research. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences. May participate in development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.

Basic Qualifications: 

A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be completing or has completed their PhD from an accredited institution
  • Be majoring in or having majored in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree
  • Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher

Salary Range

Minimum: $95,300.00

Maximum: $142,900.00
