Job description
Duties
- Serves as the Centerβs Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) Level 3. Acts on behalf of AFRC in matters regarding NDI qualification and certification processes. Responsible for implementation and the overall administration of the center.
- Develops and approves NDI procedures and work instructions for technical adequacy. Oversees and personally conducts nondestructive inspections.
- Accomplishes research and investigates to determine appropriate Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) techniques for any aircraft structure, engine, and their subcomponents.
- Monitors and reports on the status and progress of NDI related contracts, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that work priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality have been met.
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft/lab special audits and/or inspections per requirements specified within project Quality Assurance Surveillance Plans (QASP).
- Monitors operations to prevent the production of defects and to verify adherence to quality plans and requirements.
- Correlates findings with technical publications to determine procedures for repair or replacement when necessary. Investigates and analyzes adverse quality trends or conditions and initiates corrective action.
- Audits suppliers to ensure contract requirements are fulfilled.
- Prepares reports and maintains records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinates the preparation, presentation, and communication of technical reports to projects.

Qualifications
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level:
- Performing test methods including Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Radiography, and Ultrasonic;
- Assisting in the development of NDI procedures, reviewing existing NDI requirements, evaluating and/or applying new technologies, assisting engineering activities, and performing inspections on flight test, fielded aircraft, or aerospace systems;
- Classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies, and recommending viable courses of action for items of equipment.
