What We Need 
The Senior Systems Engineer will work with multi-disciplined engineers to architect and design the next generation of satellite-based mobile communication platforms. This role will work with our product development, hardware and software teams to translate market and customer requests into system requirements, detailed specifications, and determine key performance indices that drive the overall criteria for successThe ideal candidate will be able to lead and direct design, modeling and analysis efforts, and will develop performance expectations for features which provide a seamless mobile experience on satellite networksThe Senior Systems Engineer will operate as both a lead and individual contributor in the technical direction of systems, software architecture, algorithms, and data analysis by helping to solve complex mobile satellite communication and networking challenges.  
  
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Lead system level architecture and design of satellite terminal platforms and networks 
  • Establish the plan of record for large engineering projects 
  • Collaborate with product team to define requirements for next-gen satellite communication platforms 
  • Develop and maintain design collateral such as physical block diagrams, integration diagrams, network diagrams, CBOMs and size, weight, power, performance budgets 
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to inform design, and communicate progress to executive stakeholders 
  • Work with engineering teams on system level design specifications, analysis and trade-offs, including definition of both hardware and software requirements, features, and integration tests 
  • Develop gate review collateral to demonstrate maturity commensurate with product development phase 
  • Identify, prioritize, and drive mitigation of system level risks  
  • Perform modeling and link budget analysis of wireless communications systems 
  • Drive streamlined integration efforts of new product hardware, software, network and support equipment for faster feedback and iterative development   
  • Decompose product level objectives and use case definitions and objectives to align with testable real world scenarios into actionable engineering workstreams  
  • Perform component trade studies (including make/buy trades and supplier identification/research)  
  • Analyze, report and communicate test results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders  
  • Purchase, organize, and manage integration lab equipment  
  • Weekly workstream reporting, including briefing sponsors and internal stakeholders  
 
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 
  • 7+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: RF system design, satellite communication system design, mmWave 5G UE system design  
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and set technology standards and process direction 
  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Manufacturing and Supply Chain organizations 
  • Demonstrated leadership throughout the product lifecycle from concept through development and launch with an understanding of support and end of life 
  • Modeling and simulation experience using industry tools (e.g. MATLAB, STK, NumPy, GIS)  
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated toolkit of creative and logical approaches grounded in advanced data analysis and interpretation skills. Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize data from many different sources such as experimental measurements, computational models and field data 
  • Experience with highly complicated system integration and test activities  
  • Experience with automation in Linux and Windows environments  
  • Strong proficiency in using python for automation and data visualization  
  • Preferred experience with position, navigation, and timing algorithms, sensors, and alt-nav solutions 
  • Preferred experienced with military use-cases, applications, and customers 
  • U.S. citizenship required and ability to obtain a security clearance 
  
EDUCATION 
  • BS or higher in electrical engineering or related discipline, MS preferred 
  
COMPENSATION 
Kymeta is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In the spirit of pay transparency, we have determined the salary range for this position to be $140,000 - $200,000. This is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would be atypical, in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. Compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to: skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and geography. The total compensation package for this position includes an annual target bonus of 10%, stock options, and benefits listed below. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
