Role

The Junior Digital-Analog PCB Engineer/Designer will be part of a team of hardware designers working on the design, implementation, and validation of mixed signal (Digital & RF) electronics PCBs used in satellites and other space-based systems. This may include applications such as digital control/processing, on-board processors, mass-memory units, motor drive units, etc. for space applications using new space technologies. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Apply the different aspects of Digital/Analog hardware design for space environment under the supervision of a senior technical authority.
    • Schematic capture board level design.
    • Management of design layout constraints definitions, parts placement and layout reviews, manufacturing and assembly drawings completion.
    • Preparation of bill of materials, including parts qualifications for space.
    • Circuit simulation (SPICE, Hyperlynx, ADS, etc.) as required.
    • Design for Manufacture/Test in the space environment.
    • Various design analyses (ex: worst case, FMECA).
  • Oversee board assembly and manufacturing tests under the supervision of a technical lead.
  • Contribute to the preparation of various documents such as review presentations, test plans, test procedures, etc.
  • Assist senior members in testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of complex mixed signals boards.
  • Contribute to scripting for hardware design of flight electronics validation.
  • Report progress and issues to their lead.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or equivalent.
  • 0 to 2 years experience
  • Knowledge and some experience with Excel spreadsheets, Pyhton, MathCAD, Spice, Matlab, JIRA or other such tools/software languages.
  • Basic understanding of electronic circuits and communication protocols
    • PCB design experience is an asset
  • Some lab experience with electronic circuits and laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscope, network analyzer (asset), spectrum analyzer (asset), arbitrary waveform generator (asset)
  • Possible experience through university clubs or internships designing PCBs
  • Exposure to a schematic entry tool (ex: Mentor Xpedition, PADS, OrCAD)
  • Academic exposure to RF design, signal processing or motor control design.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • The ideal candidate would be pro-active, enthusiastic, and result-oriented team player

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
