Job description
As a a CNC Lathe Machinist at Impulse, you will operate state-of-the-art equipment to produce critical components such as turbomachinery and precision valve components. This position is ideal for a skilled machinist who thrives in a fast-paced, high-precision environment and enjoys solving complex machining challenges.
You’ll play a key role in driving the quality and efficiency of our manufacturing processes, directly contributing to the development of cutting-edge aerospace propulsion technology.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate advanced CNC lathes and mill-turn machines with Y and B axes, sub-spindles, and multi-axis capabilities
- Program CNC machines using G-code and CAM software to manufacture complex aerospace components
- Optimize machining strategies for precision valve components, turbomachinery parts, and blades
- Interpret and work from blueprints, CAD models, GD&T, and technical specifications to produce parts to exact tolerances
- Conduct on-machine deburring and perform detailed inspections to ensure adherence to dimensional and quality standards
- Utilize advanced measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and CMMs to verify part accuracy
- Select and manage cutting tools, ensuring proper tool load, offsets, and wear monitoring for efficient machining
- Troubleshoot machine alarms, resolve tooling issues, and maintain maximum machine uptime.
- Collaborate with engineering and leadership teams to provide feedback on design for manufacturability (DFM) and process improvements
- Work with shop leadership to prioritize work orders and meet production schedules for both development and flight hardware
- Maintain accurate records of machine performance, job setups, and production runs.
- Participate in preventative maintenance and calibration of CNC machines
- Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment in adherence to 5S principles and safety guidelines
- Mentor junior machinists, sharing best practices and fostering a collaborative team environment
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 8+ years of experience as a CNC lathe machinist, with expertise in mill-turn machines with Y and B axes and sub-spindles
- Extensive experience machining complex parts such as turbomachinery components, blades, and precision valve components
- Proficiency in G-code programming and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
- Familiarity with machining hard metals like Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Demosntrated expertise in setting up and operating DMG DMU65 and Okuma LB3000 machines
- Strong understanding of tooling technology and advanced machining techniques
- 5+ years' of demonstrated experience with CAM software such as NX, Mastercam, or Esprit
- Knowledge of CNC control systems, including Fanuc, Heidenhain, and Siemens
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex machining issues
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with a commitment to quality and precision
Additional Information:
- Must be available for overtime, weekend shifts, and extended hours as needed
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. unassisted and stand for extended periods (8 hours minimum)
- Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces
- Comfort with repetitive movements and exposure to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting
Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
