Job description
The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science and operations center for NASA’s flagship observatories. The Program Support Services Branch at the Space Telescope Science Institute is seeking a Senior Enterprise Application Specialist to join our team working on NASA flagship Space Telescope missions that are revolutionizing our understanding of the universe. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Residence for ITAR compliance.
This position can support hybrid work. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV).
This role will provide vital support to the DevOps team's efforts in addressing the increasing demands and complexity of modern software development. DevOps resources are critical for designing and implementing efficient Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CICD) pipelines that allow for faster, more reliable software delivery. In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, the speed and reliability of software deployment are key to maintaining a competitive edge.
This DevOps professional will ensure that the infrastructure, automation, and processes are optimized for scalability, reliability, and security. They play a crucial role in enabling teams to collaborate effectively across development and operations, ensuring a smooth flow from code creation to deployment. Moreover, DevOps professionals help organizations leverage new tools and technologies to stay ahead of the curve, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and agility. You will lead the cloud security automation initiatives & leverage DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines to implement robust automation and monitoring systems using modern engineering/operations frameworks for the AWS cloud applications and environment supporting our space observatories like the Hubble Space Telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (Roman). Roman is a survey telescope slated for launch in late 2026 and expected to generate 20 PB of data in 5 years.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Preferred certifications include AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or equivalent experience
Experience:
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS or Azure.
- Proficiency in programming/scripting languages (e.g. Python, Java, Node JS) and IaC tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes).
- Experience in configuring, tuning, monitoring cloud infrastructure and services.
- Experience in developing automation tooling, CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience in building highly available, resilient, high performing cloud-based application platforms.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Cloud based services preferably AWS
- Modern programming languages such as Pythion, Java, Node JS.
- Skills in configuring cloud environments, troubleshooting issues, monitoring and tuning.
The starting position and salary are commensurate with education and experience. We offer an excellent and generous benefits package, tuition reimbursement, flexible work schedules, and a stimulating and diverse work environment.
Salary range is $125-135,000. Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Our excellent benefits include:
