Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic Systems Test Engineer who will primarily be responsible for contributing to Axiom's verification and validation test strategy to ensure proper requirement compliance, certification and overall mission success.  In addition, the test engineer will be expected to work closely with cross functional engineering teams to assist with the test and verification activities throughout the entire design lifecycle.  This position reports to the Test Engineering and Operations Manager. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and implement the spacecraft module-level test & verification approach with a concentration on space fluid systems

  • Work with subsystem teams to ensure inclusion of testability features for module-level tests; recommend design changes to improve testability & verifiability

  • Create test plans and procedures for integration tests between the subsystems

  • Work with the test teams to perform integration test procedures, beginning with early development level tests and refining through qualification and acceptance tests

  • Provide test & verification expertise, including knowledge of specialty test methods such as rocket motor testing, tank testing, proof pressure testing, leak testing, oxygen compatibility testing, and/or test instrumentation

  • Work with NASA International Space Station Program engineers to integrate test & verification activities for fluid systems

  • Review and contribute to supplier test & verification plans

  • Collaborate with system and subsystem engineers, program office personnel, and customers for test & verification planning, scheduling, and execution

  • Support the identification, design, development, and procurement activities for Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and Test Support Equipment

  • Prepare technical documentation and presentations for peers, management, and external customers and partners, including test readiness reviews

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (aerospace, mechanical, or related discipline)

  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years’ of direct experience in engineering test & verification focused activities or a combined equivalent of education and experience

  • A background in space systems test & verification engineering is desired, including an understanding of space vehicle design, space system architecture development, ground systems support, payloads, and space missions and operations development

  • Detailed knowledge of spaceflight subsystems and functions is desired, preferably human spaceflight related experience

  • Desired familiarization with the structural and thermal analysis process in development of hardware

  • Experience designing and/or testing flight hardware

  • Experience with hazardous high pressure system design, construction, and/or maintenance

  • Experience with the use of test and measurement equipment for testing and troubleshooting

Other Requirements 

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

Work Environment

  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
