Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer/Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer.  This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program. 

What You’ll Get To Do: 

This position requires a highly motivated self-starter with knowledge in designing manufacturing processes, procedures, production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, and material handling.  The candidate will provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.  The selected candidate will join the Production Operations, Support and Training Segment team as the lead manufacturing engineer. 

  

Primary responsibilities will include providing technical and administrative leadership and guidance to the program Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and Suppliers for developing the manufacturing planning and successful preparation and execution of MRA’s. This will include contributing to the project planning and schedule development that is aligned with the IPT Integrated Master Schedule (IMS). Provide advanced technological ideas and Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to resolve technical questions and ensure compliance and execution to the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) Deskbook, and Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) Statement of Work (SOW) requirements. In addition, responsibilities will include providing technical input to the Manufacturing Plan. 

  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Author & create Product Release Documents (PRD), Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM), PPP, & BTP packages.
  • Work with and coordinate with Global Supply Chain to move installation packages and related engineering documents through process flow to drive material procurement.
  • Assist in peer reviews of design releases to ensure first time quality.
  • Interface with cross functional internal & external teams and stakeholders critical to system deployment and installation.
  • Oversee and track progress in an agile based work environment.
  • Author and assist in the creation of comprehensive & detailed work instructions for multiple system locations supporting system deployment and success.
  • Represents the organization as a technical contact, interacts with senior personnel on important technical matters, and helps with coordination between organization 
  • Implement Lean practices in a production and/or business environment 
  • Acts as a leader and understands that erroneous decisions on their part will result in probable delay and failure of organizational objectives 
  • Develops processes by studying requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment 
  • Collaborates with Design Engineering on design and manufacturability issues 
  • Coordinates with the integration team on day-to-day activities.  
  • Resolves complex process issues. 
  • Research and evaluate commercially available tools and equipment to support activities. 
  • Design/procure specialized tooling, visual aid and fixtures. 
  • Investigates root cause of discrepancies and implements corrective actions. 
  • Troubleshoots existing processes to improve safety, quality, cost, and efficiency. 
  • Educates/trains operators on new and existing processes.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. 

You’ll Bring These Qualifications: 

  • Principal Manufacturing Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree with 5 years of experience; or Master's degree with 3 years of experience; or PhD with 1 year of experience. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree with 8 years of experience; or Master's degree with 6 years of experience; or PhD with 4 years of experience. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Required for Both Levels:

  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

  • 3 years experience with product definition/design requirements in a manufacturing setting

  • 2 years of experience and understand technical drawings

  • Manufacturing Readiness Level familiarity 

  • Supplier and DoD contracting familiarity

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have: 

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) or in a manufacturing engineering related field

  • Previous experience in production for a military program

  • Previous experience on EMD projects

  • An understanding of Manufacturing Readiness Assessment’s and establishing Manufacturing Readiness Levels per DoD customer requirements

  • Experience working Designs into pre-production & production

  • Experience with Siemens NX tools, Model based engineering, and Manufacturing Execution System (MES)

  • Demonstrated experience using SAP, Windows software packages and other electronic databases

  • Capable of working with minimal direction, independently determines and develops technical objectives of assignments, and presents work upon completion for high level review

  • Demonstrated Project Management experience

  • Ability to provide and implement technical solutions to advanced problems which require ingenuity and innovation

  • Government Coordination and Comfortability to communicate with Senior leaders

Salary Range: $86,600.00 - $130,000.00Salary Range 2: $107,800.00 - $161,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
