The SST Front Desk, located at the Galileo Security Monitoring Centre in Spain (GSMC-ES), is the main interface to deliver SST information and services (e.g. collision avoidance, re-entry and fragmentation) to the SST users’ community, through the so-called SST Portal. It has an operational team that supports users of these services, including spacecraft owners and operators, EU institutions and EU Member States. The Front Desk also performs activities related to user coordination and engagement, service performance, and communication.

The tasks shall be performed at the GSMC-ES site, located in La Marañosa, near San Martín de la Vega, which is most conveniently reached by car.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO

EUSPA is looking for a Space Situational Awareness Officer to coordinate and perform activities related to space safety and sustainability matters for the Space Situational Awareness/Space Surveillance and Tracking (SSA/SST) component and contribute to future related activities.

The jobholder will be entrusted with the following main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the Agency Space Surveillance and Tracking activities for the provision of space safety services, e.g. space traffic coordination, debris mitigation and remediation;

  • Coordinate and participate to the elaboration and implementation of regulatory frameworks, based on current and future schemes, e.g. space laws, space traffic management, and ensuring the participation of relevant stakeholders;

  • Coordinate and support activities on technical standards, certification and label mechanisms, guidelines and recommendations in the related domains;

  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of regulatory compliance on related schemes, drawing reports, with findings, operational and policy recommendations, among other;

  • Assist SSA/SST activities as subject matter expert, as well as support the elaboration of technical notes, e.g. on significant space safety events;

  • Coordinate the work of contractors supporting the above activities, when applicable;

  • Provide support to procurement processes, including drafting technical specifications, selecting providers for related activities, as well as managing contracts;

  • Liaise with other departments, notably in the area of Administration, to ensure the execution of related corporate tasks, such as planning, reporting, administration, financial & budget management, risk management;

  • Contribute to any other tasks of the department, as necessary.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience in the SSA or similar domains involving security, sustainability and safety issues;

  • Experience in developing and managing services, including from operational standpoint;

  • Experience in policy and related regulatory and implementational matters, preferably in the domains of space, security and defence;

  • Experience in financial, procurement and contract management tasks;

as well as

  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English;

  • Motivation for the post;

  • Effective communication skills;

  • Transversal collaboration and working in teams;

  • Customer focus and service orientation;

  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload to effectively deliver assigned work under tight deadlines.
