Position Purpose: The Hardware Quality Engineer II can be focused on several different areas – Hardware Quality, Supplier Quality, or QMS systems.  The specific Job Responsibilities for a given engineer are dependent on their assigned area, however all Quality Assurance Engineers are expected to have or attain general knowledge in each of the focus areas.  All Quality Engineers are expected to provide support and data to various process owners to facilitate continuous improvement initiatives, interface with technical engineering disciplines and manufacturing technicians, assess risk for their assigned areas and mitigate it as appropriate, participate in root cause and corrective action activities, and champion quality throughout the organization.

Pay Range: $80,000 - $140,000

(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:QMS Assignment Area:

  • Focus on the coordination and administration of the AS9100 Quality Management System.
  • Actively engage with the business through the QMS software and increasing its integration into internal systems.
  • Manage, update, and mature the integration of the QMS software and its data to facilitate operations
  • Support 2nd party customer audits and 3rd party QMS registration audits
  • Strategically reduce non-conformances through internal corrective/preventative actions issued for recurring trends and/or acute issues
  • Schedule and conduct internal audits of AS9100 processes throughout out the enterprise
  • Articulate and report audit findings to stakeholders and assist with corrective action verification and validation efforts
  • Develop and message quality metrics including supplier data and yield information
  • Assist Quality Manager in establishing, implementing, and maintaining department process documentation
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


   Hardware Quality Assignment Area:

  • Participate in risk identification reviews of manufacturing instructions and test
  • Adjudicate inspection issues and collaborate with the responsible manufacturing and/or engineering functions to improve product and/or processes.
  • Lead defect analysis for products and process work centers and facilitate
  • Interface with Mission Assurance Managers regarding hardware status and risk
  • Chair the Material Review Board and participate in Failure Review Board
  • Drive closure of non-conformances and provide status to
  • Identify supplier issues and address design and manufacturing areas for
  • Facilitate customer visits, audits, and process
  • Support the inspection team to ensure that products and processes comply with customer
  • Assist in conducting internal audits and support calibration
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing principles throughout the organization as it pertains to quality assurance methodology.
  • Assist Quality Manager in establishing, implementing, and maintaining department process
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


Supplier Quality Assignment Area:

  • Build supplier relationships, reduce supplier caused defects, and minimize waste
  • Take lead role in supplier qualification activities
  • Aid in supplier development by performing supplier audits and capability assessments
  • Asses new suppliers, re-assess current suppliers
  • Communicate with suppliers on all quality related items, including the assignment and receipt of SCARs
  • Evaluate SCAR responses and coach suppliers on RCCA activities.
  • Develop and maintain supplier scorecard rating system
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

Required Qualifications/Education:

  • 3+ Years of experience, BS/BA in a technical Preference given to Industrial Engineering, engineering, or statistics
  • Experience in Quality Engineering and/or related technical role(s)
  • ASQ Certified Auditor, Quality Engineer, Certified Six Sigma Greenbelt/BlackBelt, and/or AS9100 Lead Auditor highly desired
  • Additional related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Familiarity with calibration systems (Z540 or ISO17025)
  • Familiarity with electronics and mechanical hardware assurance methods and tools (inspection, test, analysis, MT&E.) Familiarity with electronic and mechanical components is a plus.
  • Experience with aerospace manufacturing (quality, engineering, measurement, and/or support) is necessary. Experience with spaceflight hardware and systems is a plus.
  • Working understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.)
  • Previous experience with corrective actions, supplier engagement, and 3rd party audit support is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with IPC-600, 610, & 620 and J-STD-001 PWA and PWB requirements is preferred but not required. The candidate will be expected to achieve certification(s) shortly after hire.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.


Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.
