IT Summer Intern for Cyber Security and Data Resiliency

EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for an IT Summer Intern in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position will be located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with IT staff on IT infrastructure security, ransomware mitigation, and readiness projects.
• Work with IT leaders to build data resiliency strategies and support the development of a disaster recovery plan.
• Participate in assessments and improvements to enhance cybersecurity posture, focusing on prevention, detection, and response to threats.
• Work with IT leaders to support the automation of security processes by developing scripts or tools to streamline operations.
• Conduct research and share best practices for data protection and disaster recovery.
• Contribute to documentation efforts, creating detailed reports and process guides related to security and resilience projects.

Basic Requirements:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or Information Sciences, or a related field
• 3.0 GPA or above
• 60 credits or more by May 2025

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of IT security fundamentals and an understanding of Cybersecurity principles.
• Experience in programming or scripting for automation purposes (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills, with an ability to work collaboratively with IT staff and other stakeholders.
• Knowledge or experience in AI and machine learning applications within IT security.
• Familiarity with data backup solutions, cloud storage, and disaster recovery tools.
• Basic understanding of network security, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.
• Experience with version control systems, such as Git.

Compensation Range

Annual Salary: $49,000.00 - $70,000.00
