Position Description:

We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support a Department of Defense program. This candidate will be the principal program Manufacturing Engineer responsible for all aspects of production for the assigned program.  Under direction of the VP Operations and the assigned Program Management team, will be responsible for daily manufacturing and test operations support to ensure technically correct manufacturing and product flow such that quality, OTD and production cost targets are met.  

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborating cross-functionally with safety, design engineering, operations, quality and other teams to define manufacturing work instructions, equipment, tools, materials and training.
  • Utilizing project management techniques / tools to meet cost, technical and schedule requirements
  • Playing a key role in the non-conformance process supporting root cause, corrective and preventive action investigations/ decisions/ validations, and implementation of related actions
  • Supporting continuous improvements to manufacturing processes to deliver in line with customer requirements
  • Proactively supporting and coaching the production technicians through frontline support utilizing an integrated project team approach, providing training material as needed and maintaining training records
  • Actively participating in the change management process driving and implementing process / design changes to improve manufacturing results and support improvement of business processes as a whole
  • Candidate will assist various management, staff, vendors/suppliers, customers, and partners with initiatives to ensure manufacturing processes and methods are compliant to customer contractual requirements and continuous improvement initiatives in the areas of cost, efficiency, quality assurance, and customer satisfaction are implemented.
  • Review design drawings for manufacturability ensuring constructive feedback is provided to Design Engineering prior to drawing release
  • Develop and document program Manufacturing processes, tools and methods
  • Ensure facility is capable of supporting designs; identifying actions required to improve facility capabilities as required
  • Manage business processes to measure and improve overall production performance updating and improving departmental procedures as required.
  • Utilize key quality metrics & associated quality trends to initiate and deliver improvements that will drive improved overall quality performance.
  • Support product failure modes and effects analyses
  • Support supplier and conduct in-house Manufacturing Readiness Level Assessments (MRLAs) 
  • Support Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations
  • Participate in Supplier First Article Inspection Reviews
  • Support Hardware Acceptance Reviews and Pre-Ship Reviews
  • Conduct, and/or review and approve First Article Inspection (FAI) reports
  • Support program status and performance reviews
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Collaborate with leaders from various functions to assure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Provide local customer interface

 

Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or relevant discipline from an accredited college/university. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • 15+ years of experience in Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, ,Supply Chain, Operations or relevant discipline
  • Experience working to identify, utilizing quantitative and qualitative analytical capabilities, and communicate manufacturing process improvements to successfully influence other to effect change in engineering drawing and other requirements documents  
  • Experience with AS9100, AS9102, ISO 9001
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Manage and mentor operations personnel and report their program status to program office 
  • Ability to recognize workloads of self and others and delegate tasks to junior staff and peers as needed 
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with limited supervision while coordinating initiatives across multiple functional organizations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Knowledge of MDA Assurance Provisions (MAP), and MDA Parts, Materials, and Processes Mission Assurance Plan (PMAP)
  • Experience in engaging with and representing the function with customers (DCMA, Program Office)
  • Experience with program management or supplier processes
  • Involvement and experience in Lean Manufacturing
  • Supplier Evaluation and Auditing
  • Experience with chairing Material Review Board (MRB) and NCM activities
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience
  • CQE and CQA certification
  • Lean Certification
  • QMS and Supplier Auditing
  • Non-Destructive Inspection/Non-Destructive Testing of Solid Propellants
  • EVMS CAM
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.

 

Preferences:

  • Master’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or relevant discipline from an accredited college/university. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • Rocket Motor manufacturing and test experience, facility design and setup
  • Current DoD Secret Security Clearance
