We have a current opportunity for a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Goleta, CA. In this role you will report to the Design Engineering Group Manager and be part of a project team working on various design tasks, including 3D modeling and drawing generation.
Responsibilities
- Create 3D solid models using SolidWorks CAD software in support of new and existing space flight programs
- Apply engineering principles to ensure that designed components and systems meet all requirements.
- Create, maintain, and release component, assembly, and layout drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards. Utilize SolidWorks PDM system to maintain configuration control
- Lead the design and development of deployable solar arrays.
- Proactively interface with multi-disciplinary team members to optimize component and system designs that meet all technical, cost and schedule requirements
- Utilize hardware-based techniques to perform research and development, iterate on design concepts, correlate engineering models, and develop manufacturing processes and procedures
- Generate technical documentation, reporting and presentations of design, test, and analysis results
Ideal Experience
- Master's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or other related degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
- Experience working with design, manufacture and verification of electromechanical systems, photovoltaics, and composite structures
- Experienced with SolidWorks PDM or CAD
- Experienced with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 along with tolerance analysis capabilities
- Ability to travel - an average of 10-15% travel may be required. Most of the travel is local but some overnight travel may be required.
- US Citizenship Required, with the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance
Desired Skills
- 5 or more years’ experience in space industry, including developing, building, and testing space flight hardware, ideally deployable solar arrays and coilable booms.
- Self-motivated in applying engineering principles, concepts, and practices of mechanical / aerospace engineering to independently perform assignments
- Experience with space mechanism design and aerospace guidelines such as GSFC-STD-7000A (GEVS), AIAA S-114-2005, NASA-STD-5017, MMPDS, etc.
- Experience with Thermal Desktop, NASTRAN or ANSYS is a plus
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365
- Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills

Pay Range: $127,000 - $170,000/yr.
