Job description
Duties
- Provide technical guidance and direction to aircraft engineering technicians and overall technical authority for the assigned research platform.
- Perform modifications, periodic and unscheduled maintenance, and pre- post- and thru- flight activities.
- Troubleshoot multiple aircraft including Global Hawk and ground control station electronic, avionics, instrumentation, science and research instrument components, and associated test equipment.
- Work closely with engineers and or customers to plan, design, install, troubleshoot, repair, and improve complex avionics, instrumentation, and science or research instrument systems.
- Read and interpret aircraft blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications and procedures, and applicable safety manuals.
- Serve as the designated system inspector for assigned research aircraft, conducting thorough inspections in all areas that impact airworthiness and operational safety.
- Support professional engineers in performing experiments, research, and development activities requiring an in-depth knowledge of technical engineering methods, applications, practices, and principles to work on concepts and experimental projects.

- This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete a Class III Flight Physical.
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully pass a vision test per NASA-STD-8739.6 and obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and CPR certification.
Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service:- Developing and/or applying procedural instructions or methods of aircraft repair practices for the maintenance, repair, or operation of equipment/systems;
- Repairing aircraft electrical and electronics systems and/or installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining avionics systems on modified aircraft;
- Providing technical information related to the fabrication, repair, and/or modification of standard aircraft electrical and avionic systems, research instrumentation systems, payloads, test devices, or prototype components.
