The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science and flight operations center for NASA’s flagship observatories. We are hiring a Systems Engineer II to join our Certification, Integration & Test Engineering Branch (CITEB) in the growing Systems Engineering, Integration & Test and Flight Operations Division (SEITO). This is a role for candidates with mid- level experience (5+ years) in systems testing or in systems operations to support the planning and execution of complex systems for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (Roman).

Salary Range: This is an exempt position and the range is $103,000 - $110,000. The starting position and salary are commensurate with education and experience.

Your Role & Responsibilities include:
- You develop system integration & test (I&T) plans and procedures for complex spacecraft ground systems
- You perform systems integration and acceptance testing
- You develop verification plans and procedures for different levels of integration requirements
- You execute formal system tests and report on problems found
- You communicate and work with partners such as systems engineers, test engineers, product team members, external contractors, project members, and customers concerning test plans, test procedures, and operational system issues.
Your Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics, Astronomy, or Aerospace Engineering and 5+ years of experience in systems integration, operations and testing of complex systems. Different engineering, scientific or technical degree in combination with meaningful work experience will be considered.
- Experience with formal testing methodologies and automated requirements management tools
- Experience with engineering tools and computer software, including PC and Mac tools, UNIX, Linux, and SQL databases.
- Experience in system testing or in system operations
- Strong decision-making, analytical, problem-solving, and planning and organization skills.
- Good written and interpersonal skills are essential.
Helpful but Not Required:
- Knowledge of standard data formats used in publicly accessible archives is desirable, with space-based systems preferred.
- Knowledge of astronomical data processing, as well as spacecraft ground control systems is helpful.
- Prior experience working on NASA science missions is desirable, but not required. Because this program is developed and executed in collaboration with remote engineers, experience with geographically dispersed teams is desirable.
You must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident for ITAR clearance.
