Job description
Astranis is on a mission to bridge the digital divide by connecting the four billion people worldwide who currently lack internet access. We're doing this by building the next generation of smaller, more cost-effective spacecraft to bring the world online.
As a team, we’ve launched two satellites into orbit, signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $500 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 300 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars.
Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more!
Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career.
Apply and join us on our journey towards global connectivity!

The payload is the part of the satellite that performs the primary mission or function. For us the payload would be equipment and systems that facilitate communication.
The ideal candidate will possess strong software architecture skills, a deep understanding of hardware testing methodologies, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams in implementing robust testing solutions. This role will involve architecting and building test infrastructure, collaborating closely with hardware engineers and software developers, and providing technical leadership throughout the testing process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of test frameworks for hardware systems, specifically for payload testing across our next generation satellite projects.
- Architect scalable and efficient testing solutions that integrate seamlessly into the software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to identify testing requirements and design appropriate testing methodologies.
- Work closely with software developers to ensure the effective integration of testing processes into software systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members in software architecture and testing best practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred or equivalent years of work experience.
- 7+ years of experience in software architecture, with a focus on designing and implementing test frameworks for hardware systems.
- Deep understanding of software testing methodologies and best practices.
- Proficiency in database management and automation tools.
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Bonus:
- RF knowledge is preferred but not mandatory
- Hardware knowledge is preferred but not mandatory
- Experience working with test equipment in a lab and production environment
