Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector is seeking a Sr. Principal or Staff Engineer Crew Systems (CS) to be responsible for Flight Crew related hardware and accommodations for Human Space Flight.  This CS Engineer will serve as a key member of the CS team for the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) Program and other Human Exploration Programs. This position can be filled in Houston, TX, Gilbert, AZ, Redondo Beach, CA or Dulles, VA.

The CS engineer will contribute to all CS efforts on HALO or other assigned Programs including but not limited to:

  • Identification of hardware, testing, and operational needs to support Flight Crews in Human Space Flight Programs to meet and exceed NASA customer requirements and expectations

  • Development of specifications, statement of work, requirement documentation for Crew System hardware

  • Developing innovative solutions to meet Program needs, evaluate design concepts and trades, and evaluate and iterate on vendor designs.

  • Decompose NASA requirements to define HALO specific verification method, verification statements, and subsystem allocations. Develop details verification planning

  • Requirements engineering, technical planning, system engineering and integration, verification and validation, cost and risk assessments, and supportability/effectiveness analyses for total systems.

  • Development, coordination, and implementation of test programs for hardware qualification and integrated requirements verification.

  • Generation of technical documentation summarizing analysis, test results, interface definition, and other customer deliverables.

  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Regular interaction with customer counterparts, vendors, human factors engineering, system users, and different sub-system engineering disciplines to ensure user needs are represented in product design while meeting necessary requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD security clearance 

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field with 12 years of experience or 10 years of experience with Master's or 8 years with PhD

  • Human Space Flight hardware and operations experience

  • 3+ years System Engineering Integration (SEI) experience

  • Significant experience with Systems Engineering processes, engineering lifecycle, technical readiness levels, and technical evaluation with objective and subjective supportive data

  • Experience with requirements management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Human Spaceflight crew hardware and operations

  • Experience with the interpretation and application of complex systems integration, systems safety, crew survivability, and habitability requirements to system design

  • Experience with hardware development and qualification and acceptance testing.

  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) Preferably PTC CREO

  • Experience with Confluence/Jira

Salary Range: $165,000.00 - $247,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
