Maxar Intelligence is currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer for the Command and Telemetry Tooling team. This role is located in the Westminster, CO office and involves designing, developing and maintaining RESTful microservices used to build, test and deploy satellite command and telemetry throughout the satellite product development cycle.

What you will do day to day:

Maxar’s constellation of low-earth orbit (LEO) earth observation satellites are renowned across the industry for their ability to capture imagery that both inspires and informs our understanding of our living planet.  We have invested heavily in modernizing and unifying our software development tool set used manage the command and telemetry data used to communicate with our satellites. Where other space vendors often manage this data with spreadsheets, we are managing it with a set of purpose-built, cloud deployed micro services.

This role operates at the intersection of exciting aerospace opportunities with cutting-edge software development practices and tools.  If you are someone who is experienced in the later, and want to be involved in the former, this is the role for you.

Responsibilities:

  • API design, documentation, and governance
  • Build and maintain reliable, scalable and fault-tolerant applications and services
  • Create and maintain relational and non-relational database systems
  • Contribute and maintain technical documentation
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code that follows software development best practices
  • Conduct code reviews and provide feedback to other engineers

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
  • 5+ years of engineering experience (Masters degree may count towards 2 years of experience)
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Typescript 
  • Familiarity with AWS services, such as RDS, S3, ECR, API Gateway, Lambda, Step Functions 
  • Understanding of build systems and toolchains 
  • Experience with designing, building, and running distributed systems 
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills  
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery  

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Infrastructure as code, AWS cloud platform  
  • Database performance design experience 
  • Familiarity with distributed version control systems such as Git  
  • Construction and maintenance of a CI/CD pipeline such as Gitlab 
  • UI/UX development, including AG Grid 
  • Linux or other Unix-based OS  
  • Experience with container technologies (preferably experience with Docker, Kubernetes)  
  • Familiarity with the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)

In support of pay transparency at Maxar, we disclose salary ranges on all of our U.S. job postings. We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range. To accommodate all locations, we have listed the bottom to the top of the possible range, and will share the target range for a specific location during the recruiting discussion. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidates unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$107,000.00 - $229,000.00 annually.

Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
