FILED ENGINEER (SITE DEVELOPMENT)

As a member of the Construction Projects team, you will work with a group of elite engineers and specialists across multiple disciplines to design, build, and activate infrastructure for a variety of projects at the McGregor Rocket Development Facility as well as other SpaceX Facilities. This role is responsible for the design, build, and activation of infrastructure, facilities improvements, and large capital projects. You will have the opportunity to drive positive change in a fast-paced and low-drag environment.  This includes owning tasks/projects from start to finish, to make the SpaceX campus a world-class facility that can support the mission of enabling life beyond Earth. This position is based in McGregor, Texas (Central Texas area).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide daily coordination to contractors working across the entire facility and coordinate critical path work to maintain project schedules.
  • Plan construction activities with facility operators to avoid delays to facility operations.
  • Perform daily inspection and verification of contractor’s progress and observe critical operations to ensure quality.
  • Provide site layout to contractors and record as-built information with GPS and total station equipment, hire and manage independent surveyors as needed.
  • Ensure contractors follow site and OSHA safety standards while performing work.
  • Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners, and internal clients to develop project requirements, schedules, and cost estimates before project implementation.
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real-time.
  • Safely and efficiently operate earthmoving equipment to support various infrastructure projects across the site including streets and drainage construction/maintenance, utility installation, commercials pads, etc. Operating the heavy equipment will be a large part of this role in addition to the project coordination and oversight responsibilities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in construction or engineering with 2+ years of experience working in the field on construction projects (5+ total years of commercial construction field engineering experience will be considered in place of degree)
  • 2+ years of experience operating earth-moving/heavy equipment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience operating excavators, loaders, motor graders, dozers, and trenchers to design grades and elevations
  • Experience in field layout and staking using tape measures, string lines, transit levels, and laser levels
  • Proficiency in reading construction documents
  • Proficiency in calculating percent grade, calculating volumes, and establishing and using site benchmarks
  • Experience in performing topographic, construction staking, and as-builts using GPS and/or total station equipment
  • Experience installing civil infrastructure such as underground dry and wet utilities and road construction
  • Experience with project management of major construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management
  • Experience in directing work in the field between trades and contractors.
  • Experience in using AutoCAD or Autodesk Civil 3D

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work at elevated heights (200+ feet)
  • Physical effort with lifting and carrying materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs. unassisted)
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in tight spaces
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Occasional travel may be required to support projects at other sites (up to 25%)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:    

Pay range:    
Field Engineer/Level 1: $95,000 - $115,000
Field Engineer/Level 2: $110,000 - $130,000    
    
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
