This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As a senior manager of the New Glenn Enlarged Payload Fairing, you will report to the Director of New Glenn Stage 2 Payload Accommodations (GS2PA) and directly support program execution. This is the largest and most capable upper stage ever developed and the largest commercial fairing available. Coupled with the reusable first stage, this provides New Glenn customers with unprecedented payload launch capabilities. This position will support all aspects of program management to include cost, schedule, technical design, and risk management as well as working with Blue Origin internal organizations and suppliers to deliver a qualified system. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.
Responsibilities:
- Program Management – Plan and coordinate the resources necessary to successfully design, analyze, build, test, and qualify the second stage’s enlarged payload fairing.
- Review and approve new design concepts, drawings, analysis, test plans, qualification plans, manufacturing and build plans, processes and procedures in support of developing flight ready hardware.
- Technically advise and lead the team through formal reviews (PDR, CDR, PRR, etc), screening tests, and qualification test programs.
- Report progress updates, details on monthly cost and schedule variances, and corrective actions for program and company level reviews.
- Provide technical and programmatic leadership by supporting staffing plans, hiring, and training plans.
- Offer daily support, guidance, and management of the enlarged payload fairing team.
- Work with design and manufacturing teams to identify and resolve nonconformances or other technical issues throughout the product lifecycle.
- Drive the execution of complex development programs while maintaining budget and schedule, and supporting hardware fabrication.
- Bridge communication and work with all stakeholders to fully define requirements, or resolve unknowns, so that designs can be matured.
- Support manufacturing and production planning for future facility footprints and rate studies.
- Establish and maintain regular business rhythm, consistent products, action tracking, and consolidate information for effective decision making.
- Act as a liaison between various internal/external businesses partners and process owners.
- Collaborate with other Blue Origin business units for requirements and interface management, programmatic collaboration, and qualification approval.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience managing a highly dynamic and diverse development program with an approximate budget of $10M to $30M.
- Extensive engineering experience with detail design, analysis, build, test, and qualification of space flight hardware.
- Experience with hiring, training, allocating resources, problem resolution, and managing a multi-site team.
- B.S. in an aerospace, mechanical, or systems engineering-related field, with 5+ years of complex product development experience.
- Program and technical leadership experience in an aerospace development environment with experience in full lifecycle development of aerospace systems, designing, deploying, and supporting one or more flight systems.
- Highly organized leader with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated track record of resourcefulness, strong business and technical judgement, and a bias for action from their previous assignments.
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly dynamic work environment.
- Collaborative, constructive, and concise communicator.
- Ability to travel in support of the program, customer, and supplier activities.

- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong business management acumen and experience managing large, geographically dispersed programs with multiple subcontractors.
- Successful experience in hiring and developing great people with diverse skill sets, a demonstrated ability to motivate and organize effective teams, and experience resolving conflicts.
- Experience with verification, integration, and test, of orbital launch vehicles or human rated spacecraft.
- MBA, Program Management Professional (PMP) certification and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience. Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
- M.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or systems engineering and experience with launch vehicle development, production, and operations.
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $167,088.00-$233,923.20Other site ranges may differ
