The Role:

We’re on the hunt for a Program Engineer – EW Systems, as part of Geointelligence Engineering Team sitting at our Kanata, Ontario location.

Our mission is to turn data into insight. From detecting changes in fragile ecosystems to monitoring northern ice floes and shipping routes, our near-real time data of Earth observation and the environment makes our Geointelligence team a leader in geospatial imagery, ground stations, enterprise geospatial systems and defence programs.

As a member of the Engineering team you will work on our programs such as Chorus Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Satellite, Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), Square Kilometer Array (SKA) radio telescope, Aeronautical Navigation products, and Marine Insights products. You will work as part of a technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our customers.

As part of your growth and development we will work with you to establish your development actions alongside regular progress reviews. You are likely to move through various projects to gain the experience and knowledge to progress your career with us.

As part of the Engineering team, the individual will work with other engineers and suppliers in a multi-disciplinary team environment to create, deliver and maintain engineering solutions. The project is looking for a motivated and positive minded Program Engineer with experience leading the development and integration of complex systems to join our cross functional, multi-disciplined team.

We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated candidate with good communication and people skills, and proven experience leading delivery by systems engineering teams. As the Program Engineer you will be challenged by interesting work. You will be given the responsibility and authority to manage the technical aspects of the project. In support of external specialist staff, you will motivate and lead a project technical team to achieve the project objectives.

Excellent internal and external communication and leadership skills are necessary in-order-to work closely with the customer, with other technical teams, to obtain support from other MDA staff as needed, and to develop robust, capable, and cost-effective systems and solutions.

Responsibilities:

As a Program Engineer – EW Systems, you may have a wide range of responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading teams through the system development and implementation phases of a complex EW integrated system.
  • Delivering quality products and services within a committed budget and schedule.
  • Manage multiple work packages from definition through completion, risk management, and, most importantly, leading a strong, well-motivated program team.
  • Review of documentation, participation is program meetings.
  • Develop technical solutions in support of business development activities.
  • Support other business development activities as needed; help grow the business.
  • Working with internal and external customers to understand their needs / requirements.
  • Interface with and manage sub-contractors from a technical perspective.
  • Ensure sub-contractors are fulfilling their technical contract requirements.
  • Support work planning and cost estimates during the project’s lifecycle.
  • Providing mentoring, coaching, feedback to team members.
  • Leadership of technical team.

Required Experience:

  • University Degree, post-graduate course work desired; further education courses desirable (e.g. business development, risk management, negotiation); or a combination of education and experience.
  • At least 12 years’ experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and complexity in a complex well-structured engineering environment.
  • Delivering projects in a naval / maritime or other defence environment.
  • 5+ years recent experience as team leadership of technical engineering teams.
  • Managing co-located and distributed teams of up to 15+ people.
  • System integration of a complex system composed of multiple subsystems.
  • Managing sub-contractors and suppliers on complex integration initiatives.
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform in a dynamic working environment.
  • Have a team-friendly attitude and desire to learn and improve.
  • Project and risk management techniques and tools with a thorough understanding of system development processes and methodologies.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver technical solutions within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Known for your exceptional leadership skills, problem solving abilities, and strong capabilities in planning, organizing and process / schedule / cost control.
  • Display creativity in meeting performance requirements and established quality standards in the context of project constraints.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer interaction skills.
  • Maintaining close working relationships with system engineers and customer representatives.
  • Proven ability to lead system focused projects, leading teams through requirements analysis, full system development life cycle, following quality standards, contractual requirements and taking the project to successful delivery and sign off by the customer.
  • Have strong negotiation skills, the ability to delegate, and the ability to work with all levels of an organization.

Comments/Special Considerations:

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the NATO SECRET status level (Active clearances are preferred) and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The compensation range for this position is 130,000-160,000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
