Northrop Grumman is seeking an experienced high caliber Staff Supplier Quality Engineer with extensive background in Supplier Process Audits, manufacturing processes and inspection criteria to join the Supplier Performance Team. This team supports programs with suppliers across the United States and Internationally and is 100%remote.

This position works a 9/80 schedule and will travel an estimated 25%.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Establish a ‘Best in Class” supplier auditing program.

  • Analyze and interpret data to identify suppliers’ process issues and develop the right audits to be conducted.

  • Familiar with various categories of hardware such as PWBs, CCAs, cables and connectors, microelectronics, electro-mechanical systems, and power supplies. 

  • Represent the company with credibility, confidence and professionalism.

  • Effectively perform supplier surveillance activities designed to manage and improve supplier performance, productivity, and process validation.

  • Apply technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts to analyze and audit our suppliers’ processes and capabilities.

  • Capable of leading cross-functional teams in pursuit of performance improvements aligned to department and organizational goals.

  • Mitigate supplier quality risk to prevent/minimize business impact from supplied material defects

  • Proactive reduction and prevention of supplied material defect occurrences and verification of supplied material defect claims.

  • Lead on-site supplier engagements, including performance reviews and Quality System audits.

  • Be able to analyze and present data to all levels of leadership.

  • Strong communication skills. (both oral and written)

  • Establish positive working relationships with suppliers and internal teams.

  • Identify potential gaps in the audit process.

  • Continual engagement with higher risk/ problematic suppliers, the supplier quality field team program office and global supply chain.

  • Providing input to audit planning based on supplier performance.

  • Ensuring capture and validity of metrics, ensuring feedback is provided. (SAP scorecards, SAMS)

  • Develop and mentor Field Engineers.

  • Must be a self-starter.

  • Supplier On-Boarding audits.

  • Manage the execution of the audit process and define the objectives, scope and assignment of supplier audits.

  • Verify and monitor supplier’s compliance to NG standards and requirements.

  • Position will coordinate with Suppliers / Divisions / Category / Programs to identify audit needs.

  • Track what suppliers need special process audits conducted.

  • Will manage and guide SPM Field Engineer’s completion of supplier audits.

  • Establish and maintain audit schedule and take a proactive approach to prevent overdue audits.

  • Identify potential risks before they escalate.

  • Strengthen the relationships with suppliers.

  • Knowledge and Experience with working with Suppliers.

  • Knowledge and Experience with Supplier Audits. (Process/Special Process/QMS/Material Authenticity)

  • Knowledge and experience with NADCAP certifications.

  • Able to use dashboards and SAP.

  • Able to pull Quality and Delivery scorecards, QNs, and SCARs.

  • Benchmark audit process with NG Competitors.

  • Evaluate equivalency of audits between NG sectors to potentially eliminate duplicative audits.

  • Participate in the Corporate Quality Community of Practice meeting series as a presenter.

  • Develop a strategic approach to managing supply chain risks and ensuring that suppliers meet high standards.

  • Develop a Risk-Based Approach.

    • Prioritize audits based on the risk profile of suppliers

    • Focus on critical Suppliers

Job Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for a Staff Supplier Quality Engineer 5 are:

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in Quality, Manufacturing or Design Engineering and/or 12+ years of experience in Continuous Improvement, or 12+ years of Supplier Audit Experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM related field and 12 years of related experience in supporting mission/quality assurance, microelectronics, electrical engineering, process engineering or manufacturing. 10 years with a master’s degree in a STEM related field; 8 years with a PhD in a STEM related field.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge/manufacturing engineering experience.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

  • US Citizenship required.

  • Demonstrated Knowledge of ISO 9001 or AS9100 requirements.

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.

  • Experience in root cause analysis and corrective action.

  • Demonstrate skill to lead teams and projects.

  • Knowledge of J-STD-001, IPC-A-600, 610, 6012/6018, 620 or Mil-Std-883.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess current DOD Secret Clearance.

  • Experience working in the defense industry.

  • Strong Mechanical Background.

  • Process knowledge and manufacturing engineering experience in PWB, CCAs, microelectronics, RF devices, electro-mechanical systems, and Power Supplies.

  • Certification in J-STD-001, IPC-A-600, 610, 6012/6018, 620 or Mil-Std-883.

  • Experience with Space Requirements.

  • Six Sigma or Lean certifications.

  • Lead auditor experience to ISO 9001 and AS9100, AS9102 requirements.

  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. (ANSI Y14.5M)

  • ASQ Lead Auditor, CQE, CQM Certification.

Salary Range: $136,300.00 - $204,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
