Duties

The Enterprise Space Protection Officer:

  • Provides strategic oversight and support to NASA's mission protection programs and associated activities. Develops, enhances, and champions NASA initiatives aimed at more effectively protecting space systems and associated infrastructure, including flight systems, ground systems, and networks.
  • Oversees the management and implementation of agency policy, ensuring robust Spacecraft Conjunction Analysis and Collision Avoidance for Space Environment Protection. Develops and enforces cybersecurity policies, leading cybersecurity threat assessments, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Leads and provides expert support in cybersecurity and protection for NASA projects and missions. Facilitates the post-anomaly review process to analyze results across co-incident anomalies, assessing potential cybersecurity implications and identifying common causes.
  • Serves as the Chair of the NASA Enterprise Protection Board, overseeing a broad range of protection-related topics and initiatives. Develops and manages official correspondence for NASA with White House offices (including the National Security Council, National Space Council, Office of the National Cyber Director, and Office of Management and Budget) on space and cybersecurity topics.
  • Conducts multiple high-level engagements with the High-Performance Space Computer (HPSC) project, driving the integration of future hardware with existing software and enhancing cybersecurity capabilities. Oversees the development and implementation of cybersecurity features, ensuring seamless integration of new technologies, and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders to enhance overall mission security.

  • The individual selected will be required to file an 'Executive Branch Personnel Financial Disclosure Report' (OGE-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation commensurate with the risk and sensitivity level of the position.
  • Successful completion of random drug screening may be required.
  • Must meet qualifications requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

Candidates must be a recognized subject matter expert with at least 1 year of directly related experience equivalent to the GS-15 level in developing initiatives to protect space systems and associated infrastructure (e.g. flight systems, ground systems, and networks). This includes experience in leading cybersecurity efforts for projects and/or missions by developing and enforcing agency cybersecurity policies and threat assessments. Additionally, candidates must have demonstrated experience in analyzing post-anomaly results across co-incident anomalies and assessing and identifying potential cybersecurity implications and common causes.
