SPACE SYSTEMS

Rocket Lab Space Systems started with the CAPSTONE mission in support of NASA’s Artemis program, launching a satellite into a unique Near Rectilinear Halo Orbit around the moon. Then we became just the second company to successfully complete reentry from orbit, enabling microgravity manufacturing for the first time. Soon we’re going to Mars! Designing and building spacecraft to undertake a groundbreaking science mission with the University of California Berkeley and NASA.

We manufacture single bespoke satellites for highly complex missions, through to entire constellations. And we’re unique in offering vertical integration with our in-house satellite components too. This means we can move fast, design and build components exactly the way we want them, and constantly innovate.

SPACE SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

Space Systems Technicians work closely with Mechanical Development, Project and Design Engineers to manufacture and develop industry leading spacecraft components and vehicles.

The Space Systems Technicians work from technical drawings and Acceptance Test Specifications to assemble and test components for our family of spacecraft. They are also responsible for integrating mechanical and avionic components to spacecraft whilst maintaining strict cleanliness and quality requirements.

As a technician, you will be hands on, working with specialist test equipment to ensure that components you manufacture, meet all necessary functional and environmental requirements for space flight. Your responsibilities directly contribute to the overall production and launch schedule.

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

Trade qualified in relevant industry
Must be able to demonstrate 2+ years of relevant industry experience
Precision mechanical assembly
Operation of mechanical, electrical and automated test equipment
Comfortable working to exacting standards, including cleanliness for oxygen service
Have a working understanding of standard industry ESD
Have a good level of eyesight and be able to inspect assemblies to a high workmanship standard
Be able to manufacture components to a high workmanship standard

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
The ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as autonomously
Able to read, understand and follow manufacturing instructions and drawings
A high work ethic, always seeking more responsibility. Able to work long hours if required
Takes initiative
Remains calm under pressure
Computer literate, and comfortable using smartphones and tablets
