Production Development Engineer
As a Production Development Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and improving the business processes and systems that enable Astranis to effectively scale production while maintaining the highest levels of quality. The ideal candidate is someone with engineering experience working on high-reliability products, is self-driven, and autonomous who seeks a fast-paced, dynamic environment where they can solve difficult problems with high impact.
Role
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve business processes and systems for rate production including manufacturing execution, inventory management, nonconformance resolution, configuration management, material traceability, process control, and maintenance
- Develop standardized metrics for the Production and Quality organizations
- Implement data acquisition and tracking for Production and Quality metrics
- Act as subject matter expert in multiple production processes and systems, enabling complex data gathering, troubleshooting, and problem solving
- Assist the Production leadership team to identify trends and opportunities for optimizing production output, quality enhancements, and cost of manufacturability
- Develop and execute training and communication plans during major process changes
- Collaborate across disciplines including Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure efficiency and consistency across the organization
- Develop production factory design including building requirements, facility resources, and part flow to meet production rate
- Ownership of floor layouts, capacity studies, and product flow analysis to ensure on-time product delivery
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, industrial, or quality engineering role
- Competency with SQL databases and ability to write SQL queries
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated capability to think creatively and solve complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule
- Demonstrated ability to work in a highly cross-functional role
- Must be onsite 5 days a week
Bonus
- High volume production experience (consumer goods, automotive)
- Experience developing custom software, ERP/MES systems, and dashboards
- Experience with web-based Python applications (Flask/Django)
- Understanding of lean engineering and Six Sigma concepts and their application
- Experience analyzing large datasets and communicating conclusions
- Experience supporting production of complex electro-mechanical systems in high volume work centers and/or during production ramp-up
- Ability to identify customer needs, gather requirements, and execute independently
- Creative approach to problem solving and exceptional analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment that includes working with changing needs and requirements
- Experience with AS 9100, ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 13485, or similar Quality Management System.
- Knowledge of lean and quality tools such as Process Mapping, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Metrology, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans, and various problem solving approaches.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Regression Analysis, and Minitab.
