Within the CSG, the Human Exploration and Space Flight (HESF) Division supports our NASA customer in all aspects of human space flight. We are looking for a Gateway Vehicle Systems Integration Lead, Senior Program Engineer (Senior Project Engineer- Technical Project Management). The primary function of this position is to ensure technical risks are assessed, evaluated, coordinated, and communicated across all levels of the Gateway Program. This includes expert level understanding of the implications of technical risks, then providing Gateway senior management with narrative explanation of these implications, as well as recommended mitigation options for the risks. 

Work Model 

This is a full-time position based at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX, offering a hybrid work model that combines 3-4 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.   

What You’ll Be Doing  

  • Functioning as the Lead Technical Integrator for GatewayThis includes, but is not limited to: 
  • Commanding technical expertise down to the individual system level, while simultaneously comprehending and communicating the overall programmatic implications of technical details 
  • Providing technical risk management to the Gateway Vehicle Systems Integration (VSI) Office 
  • Implementing and overseeing technical integration packages across all 4 offices that make up Gateway VSI Office 
  • Facilitating open communication/interaction among all Program technical participants/providers 
  • Functioning as liaison between participants/providers and Gateway senior leadership 
  • Providing Gateway senior leadership with expert recommendations/technical guidanceThis includes, but is not limited to: 
  • Making recommendations to senior-level Gateway Program management on all technical risks, including managing quarterly risk reviews 
  • Analyzing and assessing quarterly risk reviews, dashboards, expenditures, etc. 
  • Providing Gateway senior management with a coordinated “Big Picture” on the overall status of the Program 
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed

What You Need to be Successful - Senior Project Engineer- Technical Project Management  

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, mathematics, or another related STEM discipline  
  • At least 12 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment with NASA Programs, preferably Human Space Flight.
  • Demonstrable expertise/experience integrating technical risks across multiple offices, vendors, and programmatic stakeholders 
  • Superior analytical, planning, problem solving, and decision-making skills 
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels
  • Proven expertise and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting, manage multiple concurrent tasks, and provide direction on competing priorities 
  • Exhibits exceptionally high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers
  • Willing to travel occasionally to work location or customer site/domestically/internationally approx. 10%  
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. 

How You Can Stand Out  

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:  

  • Master’s degree in science, engineering, or mathematics, and/or advanced education/training in specialized areas of Vehicle Systems Integration  
  • More than 12 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment with NASA Programs, preferably Human Space Flight.
  • Deep knowledge of NASA risk assessment processes  
  • Demonstrated experience with collaborations supporting multiple programs
