Summary:
Redwire Space, located in Albuquerque, NM has a current opportunity for a Sr. Manager, Lab & Facilities to support developing breakthrough manufacturing technologies for space and terrestrial spin-offs.  In this role you will work in a fast-paced environment to manage all lab functions (supplies, tooling and equipment maintenance & calibration within budget) both at AFRL and Redwire facilities and supervising technicians, including training personnel.   Working with hardware that will be launched to space, you need to have high attention to detail and prolific documentation habits. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining program plans, work instructions, procedures, and a preventative maintenance schedules for AFRL and Redwire equipment 
  • Keep equipment operational by ensuring preventive maintenance requirements are completed on schedule; manufacturer's instructions are followed; provides troubleshooting for malfunctions; and ensuring required repairs are completed
  • Responsible for providing research into machining and calibration equipment, providing recommendations using a cost-benefit approach, accounting for total ownership costs
  • Manage lab configuration and equipment within budgetary constraints
  • Documents actions through methods as specified by Program Manager(s)
  • Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
  • Maintain documentation and photos of all work done for traceability purposes
  • Attend technical training and professional training classes and seminars to maintain job proficiency.
  • Elevate issues or concerns
  • Recommends corrective actions, process optimization and modifications
  • Investigate problems and develop disposition and corrective actions for recurring discrepancies
  • Establish good working relationships with lab and shop vendors and suppliers
  • Write weekly lab updates for the management team.
  • Maintains a frequent lab presence to always know the state of the labs
  • Complete special projects as assigned
Ideal Experience:
  • 10+ years of related experience in a prototyping, manufacturing and assembly lab environment, with a minimum of 4 years supervisory or lead experience and 5 years of facilities and/or lab management experience
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations, manufacturing drawings and documents
  • Experience in developing and maintaining a budget
  • Direct experience of government safety, hazwaste, calibration, and tool control policies
  • Experience in managing, calibrating, and maintaining a precision tool log
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and direct the maintenance of tools and workspaces, establishing standardized work and cleanliness practices and fostering a healthy 5S culture within shared spaces
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes, with inspection methods and procedures, inspection equipment, and nondestructive testing techniques a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency with small power and hand tools for quick prototyping
  • Experience in managing lab/or and machine shop facilities and equipment: developing training and standardized programs and processes; managing equipment operations, maintenance, and replacement; and tracking and ordering consumable supplies; all within budgetary constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and train engineers, technicians and interns on equipment, tools and processes within the lab and/or machine shop
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including use basic Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Experience in reading and comprehending instructions, drawings, and work orders.  Experience in preparing all required paperwork and documentation. 
  • Strong mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. 
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • US citizen or legally authorized to work in the US (green card hold; visa sponsorship not accepted)
  • Ability to travel - Up to 10% travel may be required. Most of the travel is local but some overnight travel may be required
Desired Skills:
  • Manufacture, interpret, and explain mechanical drawings using GD&T and assembly procedures 
  • At least two years demonstrated CAD experience with SolidWorks or other CAD packages
  • Basic knowledge of 3D printing practices and functions or willingness to learn
  • Working knowledge of multiple standards: API (High speed rotating equipment, inspection, repairs, balancing), AWS (welding), ASNT (NDT qualifications and inspections), ASTM (Heat treatment of metals), ASME (Engineering), ISO (Quality, safety, calibration), MIL-STD (Test methods, design standard practices)
  • Experience with assembling complex mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated teaching and mentorship experience in mechanical, science and/or engineering disciplines
  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma and/or 5S Programs
  • Two years of QA/QC experience
  • ISO 9001 or AS9100 certification/audit experience.
  • Obtains and maintains at least one Quality Certification such as American Society for Quality (ASQ) CQE, CQA, CQT, CQM, ASNT, CRE, Six Sigma Black Belt
