Umbra is looking for an experienced compliance professional to ensure our operations align with regulatory standards and industry best practices. In this key role, you will lead the development and execution of compliance strategies that support our rapid growth while upholding our commitment to integrity and excellence. The successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening our compliance framework and fostering a culture of accountability across the company. Our aim is to hire this position in to work in Umbra's Santa Barbara, CA or Arlington, VA office, in a Hybrid role.  However, we are open to considering Remote applicants.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive compliance policies, procedures, and controls to ensure adherence to federal, state, and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor changes in regulations, assess their impact, and recommend necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
  • Cultivate a culture of integrity and compliance across the organization.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support on compliance-related issues.
  • Investigate incidents, violations, and complaints, implementing corrective actions and remediation plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities, industry associations, and partners.
  • Share best practices and respond to compliance inquiries.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports, filings, and disclosures in accordance with federal and state laws, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Develop data-driven metrics to track and report on the progress of the ethics and compliance program to senior management.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments and audits to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Contribute to other projects and initiatives, leveraging your skills and expertise.
  • Perform other professional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, finance, business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a compliance role within a highly regulated industry, such as space, defense, intelligence, or national security.
  • Proven experience in creating and managing a compliance program within a government contractor environment.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks, standards, and best practices related to international trade, data security, or spectrum management.
  • Strong ability to take ownership of multiple projects and guide teams through complex challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams, present findings, and influence decision-making at all levels.
  • Resilient, resourceful, and able to make informed decisions with incomplete information.


Desired Qualifications

  • Expertise in managing compliance with U.S. export control regulations within the space, defense, intelligence, or national security sectors.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies.
  • Certification as a Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM).
