Job description
As the Program Director, Evaluation & Test, you will be responsible for leading the teams supporting the development of the Test processes and test systems for the Delta Class program. The scope of work includes strategy, integration, program planning, program execution, and product testing results for the Spaceship, integrated system test articles, component qualification and material/process testing. You will lead the development of the test processes through the full product life cycle including, requirement definition, phases, production, testing, operation, and sustainment. As an Integrated Product Team leader, you will be expected to integrate engineering disciplines, business functions, and suppliers to develop the test processes and test systems in support of the next-generation production Spaceship. Your responsibilities include developing and deploying Program Management processes and tools in collaboration with the Program & Business Operations Team. In addition, you will be accountable for leading the development of program plans, including baselining as well as program execution within the approved cost, schedule, quality, and scope. You will develop and lead a cross-functional product team, to ensure programs are executed by the product development and program management processes, ensuring the achievement of program and business goals.
- Develop and maintain a detailed program plan, including Integrated Master Schedule for the Test & Evaluation Program, which aligns with the overall Delta Class program plan and company Strategic Plan.
- Execute the approved program plan with accountability for cost, scope, quality, and schedule against the approved program baseline and provide program
- Lead program reviews, including Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBR), Variance Reviews/Reporting, Monthly Program Management Reviews, and others as required.
- Develop and lead risk, issue & opportunity management process including identification, mitigation, maintaining and tracking
- Leveraging your experience to help the Virgin Galactic team develop and deploy program processes aligned with Program Management best practices
- Apply program management expertise, coupled with leadership skills and an unwavering commitment to quality of work products, to ensure the successful advancement of human spaceflight
- Integrate with other program IPT leaders to ensure the overall success of the Spaceship Delta Program ensuring there are no design or functional gaps
- Lead a diverse and talented team of multi-disciplined individuals in a matrixed organization to support product development, production, delivery and spacecraft integration, test, and sustainment
- Lead by example through Virgin Galactic’s values, communicating with respect in a straight-up way fostering transparent, and open communication.
- Build and develop an Integrated Program Team (IPT) that supports the portfolio, including crafting and implementing an appropriate operating system to support and ensure program execution
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, or similar technical discipline from an accredited institution
- 10+ years of industry experience in progressive program management or technical leadership roles
- 5+ years of experience in Test & Evaluation including, Test planning, test equipment /facilities design, test execution and data analysis
- Full life cycle experience in aerospace New Product Development through New Product Introduction and support
- Experience managing supplier performance as part of the integrated team
- Experience in logic linked, resource loaded Integrated Master Scheduling environments (Primavera (P6), MS Project, etc)
- Demonstrated success managing aerospace projects within cost and schedule goals
- Experience providing leadership and management for multidisciplinary teams of engineering, manufacturing, and business support personnel
- Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex product development environment with multiple priorities as well as a disciplined production setting
- Experience with logic-linked scheduling, Cost Account Management, budget management, and reporting
- Experience with IMP/IMS, risk management, configuration management, and requirements management processes
Preferred Skills and Experience
- PMP Certification
- Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent STEM discipline or MBA
- Experience in full life cycle systems engineering
- Six Sigma Training and Certification
The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $140,900.00–$225,500.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
