Job description
At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.
Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.
About the Team:
The Avionics team is responsible for all aspects of the electrical design on the rocket, from electronics, interconnects, associated mechanical design, testing and initial production. This team's scope includes the flight computers, power systems, RF systems, PCB design, autonomous flight safety systems, and telemetry. This team works on complex electrical systems that require modularity and flexibility, and are critical to the successful launch of Terran R, and beyond!
About the Role:
To be successful in this role, you need to be a self-starter that can thrive in ambiguity, identify problems, and quickly resolve them, and provide definition to the previously undefined. You should have a commitment to quality and the discipline required to achieve it. You will set the tone for how builds are structured, and work orders are written, how issues in the lab are addressed, and drive how test operations are run on flight hardware. You will be a trail blazer for the company, so you need to be self-motivated and able to influence both Engineering and Production to effectively implement your plans. You will need to be comfortable with desk work such as writing work instructions as well as hands on work setting up work areas, assembling hardware and running test operations.
About You:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on build and test of electromechanical systems (i.e., PCBA, wire harnessing, soldering, optics, sensors)
- Demonstrated ability to identify and address production inefficiencies, implement process improvements, and optimize manufacturing workflows.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Design for Manufacturability, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis.
- Experience developing/implementing assembly fixtures and jigs using CAD software.
- Experience introducing new products into a manufacturing, test, and production system.
Nice to haves but not required:
- Experience in avionics manufacturing or aerospace systems, with a strong background in production optimization.
- Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent expertise in continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of soldering, harnessing, or test standards such as IPC or J-STD or similar.
- Demonstrated ability in leading large-scale projects and initiatives that significantly improved production efficiency, quality, and cost savings.
