The Integrated Thermal Systems (ITS) Operating Unit is the world leader in two-phase thermal management of spacecraft and has more than 30 years of experience designing and manufacturing space-qualified products for various government, military, civil and commercial customers (Legacy Swales Aerospace).
ITS has the broadest portfolio of thermal solutions in the business and more flight heritage than any of our competitors. We tackle the industry’s most challenging spacecraft thermal control problems and have the market differentiating capability of taking systems from concept, through design, thermal component fabrication, integration into honeycomb composite structure and through system level testing all on-site with no subcontractors.
Our business is growing. We currently operate out of a stand-alone facility in Beltsville, Maryland with plans to move to a new state of the art facility (currently under construction) in Hanover, Maryland in mid 2025.
Program Execution
Ensure designs meet program technical requirements on a broad range of programs.
Ensure release of drawings meets program and operations schedule needs.
Ensure designs are completed within budget constraints.
Facilitate reviews with manufacturing engineering and operations value steam leaders.
Handle escalations and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Product
Support design activities for integrated thermal systems product lines including heat pipes, loop heat pipes and composite structures.
Support design for manufacturability at product level.
Work to ensure compliance with customer and internal requirements.
CAD Tool
Experience creating 3D parametric models using any industry-standard 3D CAD package
life-cycle management tool. Experience with PDMLink or Interlink a plus.
Help develop new and improve existing processes within the design tool to implement lessons learned, design best practices and continuous product improvement. Develop documentation for these processes.
Basic Qualifications:
Associate Design Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field and 0 years of experience. 4 years of related Mechanical Engineering experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Design Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field and 2 years of experience. 6 years of related mechanical engineering experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Experience drafting, reviewing, or interpreting 2D mechanical drawings
Self-motivated and able to work productively and independently in a fast-paced environment
Good attention to detail, follow-through, and time-management skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be US citizen
Preferred Qualifications
Aerospace experience with product definition (Specifications, SOW's, Drawings) and design and verification processes is required for this position.
proficiency in CAD tool Creo Parametric
Experience within a manufacturing environment
Familiarity with applying and interpreting GD&T (Geometric Design and Tolerancing) per ASME Y14.5
