Position Description: Senior Business Development (BD) leader for the Defense Systems Propulsion business area who develops New Business Acquisition vision, strategies, and tactical plans, and then executes to drive bookings (sales), increase revenue, and position the business for robust growth in alignment with financial objectives. This person will identify and evaluate expansion of current and new markets, partners, channels, and customers. The role requires a strong technical background and solid propulsion domain experience to develop customer trust and relationships, and effectively partner with the internal technical execution team. The individual must be skilled at both the Strategic level and hands-on independent BD execution in an entrepreneurial environment which includes understanding strategic environment, threats, problems, priorities, limitations, and requirements as well as a deep understanding how the customer perceives capability and capacity gaps. This role is a highly visible senior leadership role reporting to the Defense Systems Vice President of Business Development and directly supporting the Propulsion Business VP/GM and CTO. The individual will be expected to effectively work with and communicate with company executives, customers, project engineers, program managers, finance, contracts, Operations, HR, IT, and security.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Identifies and develops new business opportunities in alignment with Annual Operating Plan and Long-Range Strategic Plan objectives. Meet or exceed AOP Bookings (Sales) objectives.
  • Builds and manage relationships with customers, partners, CTO, and internal teams.
  • Understand Propulsion market customer missions, requirements, and gaps, and partner with Programs and Technical team to apply or develop appropriate Defense Systems solutions.
  • Leads sales, marketing, customer-service, and client relationship effort related to assigned scope.
  • Collaborate with Propulsion leadership team to guide sustainable, long-term growth.
  • Tracks emerging markets and trends; proposes and develops solutions including new offerings or strategic partnerships to address evolving needs.
  • Provides input to internal research, product development and distribution and promotion strategies.
  • Fulfills requests for white papers, requests for information (RFI) / requests for proposals (RFP) from potential partners and customers, leads captures and proposals, and smoothly transitions new work to Program Management team.
  • Support Defense Segment BD Operations. Manage within B&P budget. Support Business Area Pipeline generation and reporting, Assists improving BD processes and training for Capture and Proposal management efficiency.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science with preference for STEM degree
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
  • 15+ years of DoD BD experience which includes 10 years in DOD solid propulsion industry
  • 10+ years’ experience working with Propulsion government and prime contractor customers and partners including Missile Defense Agency, Missile Defense Missile program offices as well as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and other relevant Tier 1 and Tier 2 propulsion suppliers.
  • Experience in forging and maintaining relationships with senior-level decision makers (Director equivalent and up) of the above organizations as well as experience building key connections with new customers.
  • Track record from capture to close in bringing in large ($20M+), complex awards, with successful transition to program management. Profit and Loss responsibility for Bookings (Awards).
  • Held a Secret or above DoD security clearance within last 5 years.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time with potential for additional spikes or lulls.
  • Excellent communicator, able to successfully connect across business functions and experience levels up to senior executive. Excellent development of BD presentation with technical content.
  • Experienced independently leading BD Campaigns and Captures, and leading small and large proposals.
  • Ability to both shape and implement business growth strategy as well as hands-on execution at the tactical level.
  • Financial and business acumen. Establish and maintain B&P budgets with P&L responsibility for Sales (Bookings).
  • Enthusiasm and sincerity. Self-starter who leads teams, as well as operates independently as the needed.

 

 

Salary Range: $169,029 - $262,973
