About the role
Muon Space is building an expert team for designing and generating value-added Earth observation products using Muon’s constellation of low Earth orbit satellites and other geospatial datasets. Our Data Platform Software Engineering Manager will be overseeing the design, execution, and management of a Data Platform and supporting Team to support the timely delivery of 100’s of PB of geospatial data per year. The data types range from minimally processed Level 1 data to more complex Level 3 & 4 products derived using both signal processing and ML-based scientific models. This is an ideal role for a candidate who would like to build a new ground up Geospatial Data Platform. This role will collaborate closely with geospatial, scientific, and machine learning product developers to incorporate scalable cloud resources and modern software engineering practices into Muon’s Data Platform in order to meet our goals in monitoring and addressing climate change.
This role may be remote or located at our headquarters in Mountain View, California.
Responsibilities
- Form and implement a technical vision & design for Muon’s Data Platform which meets the diverse Mission needs in monitoring and addressing climate change
- Partner closely with our Ground Software, Science, Business Development, and Instrument teams to translate high-level mission concepts into team requirements, strategy and goals. Communicate these goals inward and outward
- Guide a team of software data engineers to build Muon’s Data Platform towards continuously evolving requirements
- Recruit and plan for an organization that will scale to meet the demands of the business as it grows
- Cultivate a technically excellent engineering team by mentoring team members and setting high standards
- Create an inclusive, collaborative, and team-oriented culture that fosters high productivity and opportunities for growth
- Support continuous improvement of software engineering processes for building, deploying, and monitoring data and machine learning pipelines
Qualifications
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- 3+ years direct management experience of 3+ people
- Experience owning large (i.e. PB) geospatial data processing systems from design through to production
- Experience building and executing on technical roadmaps
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to interact with Business Development and Customers
- Experience smoothly deploying continuously evolving data products to customers
- Current US Federal Secret Clearance holder or eligible & willing to achieve a Secret Clearance with sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with adhering to Government, Contractual and Industry Security and Access controls
- Experience working with SaaS providers of core infrastructure services
- Experience with Machine Learning Development and Operations
- Experience coaching and mentoring data engineering skills with Science teams
Salary
The salary range for this role is $175K- $225K and will depend on a candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience as defined during the interview process.
