About the Role:
The Working Student will join our dynamic Communications team to support the operations of Planet’s Media and Think Tank Program. It is the job of the Media Program to put Planet data into the hands of reporters and analysts who use it to the benefit of society by shedding light on climate disasters, environmental stories (good and bad), geopolitical events and other events of global interest. This person will collaborate internally with a broad range of Planet stakeholders, including Creative, Customer Success, Collection Planning, and Impact Teams; and externally with journalists and experts to facilitate image requests and capacity building efforts. This is a part-time role that will work no more than 20 hours/week.
The ideal candidate is curious and willing to ask questions and learn. They are eager to support the Planet Media and Think Tank Program and are interested in geopolitics, breaking news, investigative, and data journalism. This person ideally works in the afternoons CET.
Impact You’ll Own:
- Log and prioritize in-bound image requests
- Source imagery for requests with input from Media Programs Manager
- Monitor major world events that are good candidates for imaging and coordinating with Collection-Planning
- Coordinate image processing with the Data Visualization team, when appropriate
- Collaborate with Communications and Data Visualization teams on ideas for proactive storytelling and image packages to send to media partners
- Assist Communications team with preparing weekly and quarterly media highlights
What You Bring:
- Currently enrolled in a full-time program at a university
- Familiarity with GIS tools and/or Adobe Photoshop
- Excellent organizational skills
- Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment across multiple time zones
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; fluent in written and spoken English
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Proficient in written and spoken German
- Enrolled in one of the following degree programs or studying similar subjects: International Affairs/Studies; Environmental Science; Geography or Geographic Information Systems (GIS); Data Science; Journalism, Communications, or Media Studies
- Experience in the GIS/remote sensing industry
