Position Purpose: The Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Program Manager leads the Health and Safety policies and programs for Blue Canyon Technologies (BCT) under the direction of the Executive Director of Operations and in partnership with Raytheon EHS leadership and policies. The successful candidate designs and implements EHS processes for workplace environments, equipment, and practices to achieve and maintain compliance with the company’s safety standards and government regulations. The successful candidate provides highly specialized advice on improvements related to investigations of site accidents, injuries, or occupational illnesses to determine causes and preventative measures.

Pay Range: $75,000 - $150,000

(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety and compliance of the facility through implementation and adherence to EHS policies, including waste management, hazardous materials handling, and employee practices
  • Lead, participate, and/or facilitate safety incident investigations; ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions are developed to address incidents and root causes
  • Manage Chemical Hygiene Program including Hazard Communication Program, Chemical Hygiene Plan, Safety Data Sheets, Hazardous Material Management Plan, and Waste Management Plans
  • Develop and update training programs for EHS program including Chemical/HAZCOM Safety, Radiation Safety and critical lifts; schedule and train employees in required safety training using online and live training sessions; conduct lab specific training.
  • Develop an annual safety calendar (training schedule, milestones, significant activities, etc.)
  • Perform regular audits of laboratories and other spaces for compliance with required EHS program regulations; monitor laboratory safety equipment (fume hoods, autoclaves, eye wash stations, fire extinguishers); oversee and perform testing and certification; implement remedies to address deficiencies
  • Serve as Radiation Safety Officer for radioactive materials license and X-ray machines
  • Serve as Laser Safety Officer for Class 3B and 4 lasers
  • Manage response to EHS emergencies including inclement weather assessments and chemical spills on 24-hour on-call basis
  • Ensure Job Hazard Analysis is effectively conducted; monitor closure of action items
  • Communicate and promote a safe workplace including orientation of new employees
  • Provide leadership in developing, implementing and managing safety policies, procedures and practices
  • Act as point-of-contact for all scheduled agency inspections; actively participate in internal and external discussions and meetings, with auditors, agencies, and consultants
  • Keep abreast of new, and changes to, US regulatory and industry EHS requirements (including any changes to relevant environmental legislation); communicate and ensure understanding of these requirements
  • Advise senior management on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions as well as recommendations for corrective measures; follow up to ensure measures have been implemented
  • Manage data collection and analysis of EHS metrics and reports
  • Serve as the administrator of EHS data management systems
  • Assist with preparation of government reports and permits/certifications
  • Conduct EHS benchmarking; internal and external to identify best practices
  • Participate or lead EHS projects to support best practices and risk reduction
  • Develop and manage the EHS web pages, servers, and communications
  • Might include personnel management responsibilities
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


Required Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Engineering or Life Sciences
  • 10+ years of EHS experience, or 7+ years with an advanced degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing industry or environment with efficient laboratory practice (including OSHA, DOT, EPA) preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • Additional certifications, such as CSP, CIH. P.E. or CHMM.
  • Strong working knowledge of safety codes (ANSI, OSHA and ISO) EHS regulatory compliance and management systems knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management capabilities required
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and prioritize effectively
  • Strong professional verbal and written communication skills, proficient computer skills
  • Must have experience with auditing, management systems, EHS record-keeping and reporting, incident investigation (including root cause analysis)
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, verbal and written
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education


Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted.  However, factors such as candidate flow and business necessity may require BCT to shorten or extend the application window.
