Job description

We are seeking a talented DevOps Engineer with software development skills to join our team.

 

This position will see the post holder working with Ground Segment technical architects and experts to innovate, deploy and support cloud computing capability for Astroscale France. The post holder will deploy VPCs, networking solutions and virtual machines to enable core business functions. It is expected that the systems and configurations deployed will be automated using various automation technologies.

 

The post holder must have experience working with a cloud provider (AWS, Azure) at practitioner level with or without the associated qualification. The ideal candidate will be flexible, possess broad skills across hardware installation, networking, monitoring, and software deployment/development.



Responsibilities


  • Cloud Infrastructure Deployment: Deploy and manage VPCs, networking solutions, and virtual machines to enable critical business functions on our cloud platform.
  • Automation: Develop and implement automated solutions using industry-standard tools to streamline infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment processes; utilizing tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Software Development: Collaborate with development teams to design, develop, and maintain Ground Segment software components and tools.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for cloud-based systems and applications. Proactive maintenance and refinement of the estate, contribution to cost management and security of the environments.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with technical architects, developers, and other team members to ensure the successful delivery of cloud-based solutions.



Essential Skills


  • University degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience in:
    • Managing estates with Linux and Windows, e.g., building, deploying, software management and reporting.
    • Configuration management and automation of Linux and Windows (scripting, group policy, Ansible, etc.).
    • Network communications, including VPN.
    • Understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC) principles and tools.
  • Essential team player as well as proactive. 
  • Excellent communication skills (required to interface with different cultures/nationalities) 
  • Good reporting skills (for documentation, keeping track of changes, etc) 
  • Overall understanding/knowledge of space mission design/development and standard milestones.
  • Fluent in French and English.
  • Be eligible and registered to work within Europe.



Desirable Skills


  • Experience in CI/CD pipelines, e.g., helping support the pipelines themselves or the supporting infrastructure (Gitlab, Jenkins)
  • Experience in environment provisioning, and orchestration systems like Terraform or Ansible. 
  • Experience of with implementing container solutions using Kubernetes and Docker in production environments.
  • Knowledge of one of C/C++, Java or Python programming languages.
  • Software Development on Linux/Windows systems.
  • Overall knowledge of the main components of a Ground Segment and how they interact between them.
  • Knowledge of Satellite operations.
