This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As part of a small, hardworking, passionate, diverse, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, development, testing, and qualification of structures and mechanisms for New Glenn’s Second Stage, Customer and Payload Accommodations. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities include:
Design, analysis, testing, and development of mechanisms and structural components.
Qualification of primary and secondary structure and mechanisms.
Perform research, develop concepts, and run trade studies.
Create 3D models, detail part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents.
Create test plans, specifications, and other documentation for the development of flight hardware.
Provide technical guidance for integration.
Provide manufacturing and production support.
Support configuration development and trade studies.
Perform subsystem test planning, execution, data reduction and analysis.
Work with cross-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce world class aerospace hardware.
Develop component specifications and manage suppliers.
Plan, coordinate, conduct tests, and review test data.
Participate in the development and purchase of new equipment and tooling.
Maintain and report on schedule, budget, and technical status.
Coach, mentor, and technically assist other engineers.
Identify opportunities for improvements and operational cost savings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering and 6 years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, automotive, or launch vehicle structures or mechanisms.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Experience on innovative projects such as recent aircraft, launch vehicles, automotive vehicles, or machine design in one or more of the following areas:
Mechanism development.
Vehicle load path distribution, and first order strength assessment and sizing.
Material selection, compatibility, and manufacturing techniques.
Mechanical design experience using CAD (Creo/Windchill preferred), hand calculations, and FEA (ANSYS preferred) tools.
Experience writing margin of safety summaries.
Strong understanding of metallic design and analysis matters.
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis (AMSE Y14.5).
Familiarity with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.41.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
Collaborative mindset and effective interpersonal skills.
Strong desire to continuously learn, improve, and drive solutions forward.
Desired:
Dynamic separation systems and interface design.
Demonstrated expertise with any industry standard analysis codes: Ansys, Nastran, Optistruct, LS Dyna, Hypermesh, Hypersizer.
Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware.
Demonstrated experience developing manufacturing processes for transition to production.
Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes, and quality control.
Experience with Optimization and DOE methods as applied to design, analysis, and testing.
Experience working in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products.
Familiar with diagnosing hardware issues and implementing effective repair solutions.
Setup and safely operate high energy systems (e.g. high-pressure gases, and electrical).
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $111,690.00-$156,366.00Other site ranges may differ
