Now is your chance to amplify your impact, working to solve the world’s most pressing challenges. We are hiring immediately for a Senior Staff Database Administrator to join our team in Westminster. The position will require some travel to our Longmont office.


The Database Services team at Maxar is focused on providing highly integrated and value added managed and consulting services in partnership with our internal platform groups around data design, database administration and management. We operate a highly sophisticated commercial earth-imaging satellite constellation enabling us to amass the largest database of high-resolution imagery in the world. Our systems manage massive scale storage and processing of this data in order to provide imagery solutions. We also manufacture satellites for yourself and our customer’s. We support commercial, GovCloud and secure environments in multiple clouds and on-perm. Core databases that we support are Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server, and MySQL. We architect, design, develop and maintain Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform for our ground systems platform/application teams to be able to deploy and manage databases through a highly automated process. We are also responsible for patching, upgrades database servers and internal and external compliance, security and license audits for database software. Yes, we do run a 7x24 shop and you will be part of an on-call rotation.


What you will do day-to-day with your colleagues:

  • We work with multiple versions of Oracle, PostgesSQL, SQL Server and MySQL in support of our business units. Mostly focused on database administration and management but also help with design and implementations.
  • Plan, coordinate and administer matters related to PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, and SQL Server databases including definition, structure, documentation, upgrades, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and protection
  • Demonstrate your experience working with Data Center migration to multiple cloud provide
  • Establish and maintain security integrity controls
  • Translate logical to physical design, develop comprehensive DB architectures, implementation and upgrade plans and assist in definition of database standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Create and manage large scale, highly available production database environments
  • Data loading, security, capacity planning and backup and recovery
  • Support production databases in a high quality and dynamic environment
  • Responsible for solving SQL performance related issues and optimizing poorly performing queries and stored procedures
  • Strong Scripting- Shell, Ruby, Perl, Bash, Puppet, Salt, Python
  • Responsible for 24x7 production operations (incident break/fix, change, service requests, management) and On-Call pager rotation


Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active secret level security clearance or able to obtain within expected timeframes
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or relevant field or 4 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with database administration in a production environment.
  • 3 years of development experience with data management systems.
  • 2 years of experience with AWS, Azure, Google, or relevant cloud provide. This can include public or private clouds.
  • Experience working in a DevOps model and has agile project management experience

We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range. To accommodate all locations, we have listed the bottom to the top of the possible range, and will share the target range for a specific location during the recruiting discussion. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidates unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$78,000.00 - $166,000.00 annually.

Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
