The Civil Systems Group (CSG) is seeking qualified individuals with experience supporting program and project implementation of space technologies, capabilities, and missions for a diverse customer set at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and other government organizations. We are looking for a COSMIC – Project Management Engineer, Senior Project Engineer- Technical Program Management Office. This position will support the Consortium for Space Mobility and ISAM Capabilities (COSMIC) and other ISAM activities within NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate, along with other ISAM activities throughout Aerospace.

Work Model

This is a full-time position based in one of the following locations: Chantilly, VA, Albuquerque, NM, El Segundo, CA, Crystal City, VA, Houston, TX, Cleveland, OH, Colorado Springs, CO, offering a hybrid work model that combines 3-4 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow. 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Responsible for facilitation, and technical and program management for the Missions and Ecosystems Focus Area and Industry Caucus in support of the Consortium for Space Mobility and ISAM Capabilities (COSMIC) 
  • Provide program integration and strategic input to COSMIC leadership 
  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership for product development 
  • Support strategic design, road mapping, and community building efforts 
  • Organize and lead engineering teams to solve customer challenges 
  • Communicate effectively and be able to summarize and present findings to Aerospace, customer, and community senior leadership. 
  • Participate in day-to-day technical tasking and issue resolution 
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed 

What You Need to be Successful – Senior Project Engineer- Technical Program Management Office

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM Field  
  • 12+ years of increasingly responsible professional engineering expertise, including experience in a systems engineering and/ or program management environment  
  • Strong project management, technical leadership, and team management skills  
  • Experience with technology development, systems engineering, and space architecture definition 
  • Familiarity with ISAM technologies, personnel, and government and private sector organizations with an interest in providing or requesting ISAM services 
  • Proven experience in partnership development / customer relations with multiple government customers 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to develop and clearly communicate complex information 
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customer and coworkers in a geographically distributed team environment 
  • Ability to identify and communicate concerns to leadership in a diplomatic manner 
  • Willing to travel occasionally to work location or customer site/domestically/internationally approx. 10%, 2 offsites and one in person conference required per year with optional support to other conferences
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance 

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • An advanced degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM Field  
  • Experience in organizing cross-disciplinary organizations that include multiple government customers, industry, and academia. 
  • Experience with business development, customer relations, and other aspects of the commercial space community. 
  • Experience with one or more fundamental technologies associated with ISAM: rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking (RPOD); space robotics, spacecraft autonomy, interface standards, on-orbit assembly, on-orbit manufacturing. 

We offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business.  The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below.  Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
