What is the role? 

To support the company’s growth, we continue to scale our Solutions Delivery team and are looking for a Meteorologist Team Lead to join our team at our offices in Espoo, Finland. ICEYE’s Solutions Delivery team is responsible for 24/7 operations that enable near-real-time assessment of the impact of global natural catastrophes and geophysical change using remote sensing technology. These solutions empower end users to quantitatively make timely actions for event characterization, assessment, and response during stressful and uncertain times. As a Meteorologist Team Lead, you will be responsible for:

1. Team Leadership and Management

  • Lead a diverse team of talented meteorologists across multiple disciplines and locations to monitor and respond to natural catastrophes.
  • Foster strong collaboration and communication within the team to ensure alignment and cohesion, despite geographical differences.
  • Act as a key advocate for the Meteorology team, promoting their work to stakeholders and company leadership.

2. Operational Oversight

  • Oversee the daily operations of ICEYE’s Meteorology team, ensuring efficient and accurate assessment of global natural catastrophes.
  • Ensure the team meets Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and performance metrics while maintaining a healthy work-life balance with 24/7 operations.
  • Optimize workflow and balance workload across team members to handle the challenges of 24/7 operations.

3. Strategic Development and Growth

  • Identify and act on opportunities for team development, improving overall well-being, performance, and job satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with other teams to drive innovation, contributing meteorological expertise to the development of new products and services.
  • Help define and evolve the roles and responsibilities within the team to adapt to changing product and operational needs.

4. Research and Development Collaboration

  • Provide guidance as the Meteorology team is consulted for expertise on research and development initiatives.
  • Support the integration of meteorological data into product development, ensuring the team can balance both operational and R&D commitments effectively.

5. Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Champion ICEYE’s value of curiosity by working with various teams on innovative projects that advance both team and company goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between Meteorology and other departments, driving collaboration and ensuring meteorological data is effectively utilized across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field. 
  • At least 5 years in meteorology, global weather forecasting, operational forecasting for decision making and natural catastrophe analysis.
  • Proficiency with meteorological models and software.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a team, mentoring team members and fostering a collaborative work environment. 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet strict deadlines effectively.

In addition to the above, it would be beneficial if you had the below attributes and skills:

  • Master’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Consulting Meteorologist, emergency management).
  • Knowledge of remote sensing and SAR technology.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Python, R, MATLAB) and GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS).
